While I appreciate innovation, the new commenting system is so frustrating that this is one of the rare occasions I feel compelled to leave a comment.
I edit a lot and I can do so swiftly by using hotkeys and a lot of muscle memory. Hotkey to insert a comment, escape key to get out, point and click for editing comments. It used to be fast and straightforward. Most times there was no need for me to take my fingers off the keyboard for pages of editing and commenting. For reasons beyond me, the developers have introduced several additional steps that really throw a wrench into the mechanics. It is not only overcoming my muscle memory (particularly the odd Ctrl + enter, which doesn't even bring you back to the text. but ... actually, I don't know where the cursor goes? once you hit Ctrl+enter and keep on typing no text is generated anywhere it seems, so the courser is just in inactive limbo land I guess?) As far as I can figure there is no other way, but to take the hand of the keyboard and use the mouse to navigate the course back to where one inserted the comments???. This is not just a slight adjustment of muscle memory or workflow, it really, really slows down the whole editing process, and for what exactly? I have not been able to identify a single positive, i.e. improvement of the new system.
You claim you have been introducing it on windows 365 and listen to the feedback, but I really have a hard time believing that any professional editor has given this new commenting system a big thumbs up and said that this is a great improvement... It is also very unfortunate that this was introduced with no option to not have this changed during an update. To me, it just feels like some programmers had some, in their opinion, nifty ideas, but never really ran by someone who does professional text processing using Word. Good luck next time, but I have decided to roll back my word version and disable those updates until this 'improved, new' system is somewhat close to being usable in an efficient way. And by the way, if one goes back and edits the comment it happens to me all the time that the whole comment suddenly moves and I can't even see anymore what I am writing...
Sorry for the rant but it is sooo frustrating to have a well-working system, but some people start to overengineer systems to justify their employ and good things suddenly start to become worse because the good ideas have all been implemented, and now what? Just keep on changing things and the programs and apps start to get worse suddenly.
I hope you guys will either significantly improve this commenting system or just get rid of it, or at least enable an option to reactivate the old system.
