Although the modern comment format might be useful for some, it is inconvenient for me as an editor. I use comments to the authors whom I am editing to explain why their words are edited the way I edit them, whether the issue is a grammatical error, the use of a wrong word, or a compliment on a stylistic device they used in their writing.
I share this work with the authors by printing the text and the comments together into a pdf.
With the classic comment format, this worked well -- the comments were visible and the dashed lines connected the comments to the position in the text where the edit occurs.
The modern comment format will not do that. Could you please offer an option to continue using the classic format?
Update: The comments do show up in the classic format in the print preview. I am relieved, but still a bit disoriented. Y'all should have left this great feature alone.
