I've never understood the resistance to remote work. A company can have a potential labor pool of people all over the world, or people living near a place like Redmond or willing to move near there. Conversely, people can look for jobs anywhere in the world vs jobs in commuting distance. Why limit available jobs and labor pools? NetMeeting made this possible in the 90s, though the bandwidth wasn't so hot at the time. Now you can stream movies over the phone.
