Announcing mandatory multifactor authentication for the Microsoft 365 admin center
Hi... I read about 6 months ago when this was done to a random user, that they could go ahead and disable them after the fact. Does this no longer apply? Forcing customers to do this for their organization is a mistake. This should be left up to the individual system admins for their organizations, and not by Microsoft. There must be a way to disable them afterwards?
Hi chuckenslin,
We are still gradually and methodical to minimize impact on the usecases, the team will provide communications to you about your specific roll-out dates through the message center or blog post.
We understand that you may need additional time to prepare for this MFA requirement. Therefore, Microsoft will allow extensions for customers with complex environments or technical barriers. Global Administrators can go to the https://aka.ms/managemfaforazure to postpone the start date of enforcement. We have a new feature rolling out, where you can have a date picker for extending MFA.
Establishing this security baseline at the tenant level puts in place additional security to protect your cloud investments and company.
MFA is a security method commonly required among cloud service providers and requires users to provide two or more pieces of evidence to verify their identity before accessing a service or a resource. It adds an extra layer of protection to the standard username and password authentication.
