Microsoft 365 Backup and Microsoft 365 Backup Storage at Ignite 2023

Keith_R695 overall we recommend M365 Backup to provide customers the ability to perform mass scale performant point in time recovery to maintain business continuity in the face of disasters. That kind of recovery can't be achieved via features like retention policies. The cadence (e.g. the RPO) does not impact the cost of the Backup offering, only the size of the live data + retained deleted data for recovery purposes (see more here: Pricing model for Microsoft 365 Backup (Preview) - Microsoft Syntex | Microsoft Learn). Therefore, we've optimized RPO for recoverability is de-tangled it from pricing. Variable retention period is something we'll be introducing in the future, but at this point is fixed at 1 year for the backups.
