Keith_R695 good question. Retention policies are great to ensure retention of all content under that policy in case discovery or extraction is needed. It's not particularly optimized for point in time restore to resolve business continuity issues. Microsoft 365 Backup is designed for just that, getting your business back up and running in the case of an attack or data loss event that impacts your business continuity. Backup is also not designed currently for long term retention. We may add the ability to retain the backups in M365 Backup for a longer period of time, but right now the focus is on nearer-term point in time restore at scale in a highly performant manner (on the scale of hours to recover large swaths of data into your primary view).
