Hi Microsoft 365 Insiders! My name is Jason Kempner and I'm a Product Marketing Manager on the Microsoft 365 Consumer Suite Marketing team.

At Microsoft, we celebrate our friends' birthdays, our parents' birthdays, our pets' birthdays, our children's birthdays, and yes- our products' birthdays. Since Microsoft Office's debut in 1988, the suite that made Word, Excel, and PowerPoint household names has transformed from optimizing productivity at work and school to offering essential apps for everyday life. Today, we celebrate that evolution with the 10 year anniversary of Microsoft 365.

Celebrating 10 years

Happy birthday, Microsoft 365!

In 2013, Microsoft 365 expanded Microsoft Office to a cloud subscription. We could finally start projects on one device, and finish them on another with ease. We could benefit from all our apps receiving Microsoft's latest and greatest features as soon as they are released. Microsoft 365 allowed for a staggering 1 TB (1000 GB) of cloud storage and expanded the original suite of Microsoft Office apps to help support every aspect of our lives.

  • Microsoft Defender helped add protections to our data, devices, and identities as even more of our lives shifted to digital.*
  • Microsoft Editor helped to make us all better writers and communicators, inside the classroom and out.
  • Microsoft Teams helped us to stay connected with our loved ones, no matter where we are.
  • Microsoft To Do helped replace the yellow pad grocery lists needed to support our families and homes.
  • Microsoft Family Safety helped us to keep our children safe, whether on Xbox, Windows, or the web.
  • Most recently, Clipchamp, Designer, and Microsoft Create help us spark our creativity with video editing, AI-powered designs, and template creation across the Microsoft 365 suite.

* Identity threat monitoring in Microsoft Defender is only available in the United States and US territories.

Just like that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when your loved one blows out the candles- our hearts are full for Microsoft 365. We celebrate its 10th birthday, just like we celebrate a 10-year-old child: all grown up, and out of fingers to count on. We are so proud of where Microsoft 365 came from, joyful for all that's changed, and excited for what's next. After 10 years, Microsoft 365 continues to grow with you, every day.
