Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! My name is Brian Meersma, and I'm a Product Manager on the Loop team. I'm excited to announce that you can now share Microsoft Loop workspaces, pages, and components with guest users.

Guest sharing now available in Microsoft Loop

We've heard from many of you that you’d love the flexibility to work in Loop with people outside of your organizations. Now we're making that possible, with guest sharing of Loop workspaces, pages, and components.

How it works

Sharing Loop pages

  1. To share a Loop page with a guest user, open the Loop page you want to share, select the Share button in the top-right corner of the page, select Page link, and then select Settings.Page sharing option in Loop
  2. In the Link settings page, select the People you choose option, type the email address of the guest you want to share the page with, and then select the Apply button.Link settings options on a Microsoft Loop page
  3. Share the page link with the person you gave guest access to via Teams, Outlook, or another app.

Sharing Loop workspaces

  1. To share a Loop workspace with a guest user, open the workspace, select the Share button in the top-right corner of the page, and then select Workspace.Workspace sharing option in Loop
  2. Type the email address of the guest you want to share the workspace with and then select the Invite button. An email is automatically sent to the guest user.Share options on a Microsoft Loop workspace

NOTE: You can only add guest users who already have a guest account in your tenant. If the user doesn't have an existing guest account in your tenant, first share a page with them and then wait a while before sharing a workspace.

Tips and tricks

  • You can invite existing guests to workspaces.
  • When inviting new guests you should first share a Loop page with them, then wait 1 to 2 hours before sharing a workspace.

Requirements

  • You must be using a Microsoft 365 Enterprise, EDU, or SMB license to create Loop workspaces.
  • Your tenant admin must allow guest sharing.

Availability

Guest sharing is currently rolling out to all Microsoft 365 subscribers who meet the requirements mentioned above.

3/12/25 UPDATE: Users in organizations that use sensitivity labels can now share pages and components with any email address, subject to administrator policy.

I have an external account registered as an approved user in my company's system. However, when sharing pages and workspaces they cannot be viewed on mobile. When will loop provide mobile access for guest users?

    Hi Linda_C ,

Do you have already a date available for the companies that would like to share workspaces or pages with external parties and have sensitivity labels?

We have been waiting for the development to take effect ‘’later this year‘’, but there are only a few days left before the year ends.

    We would really appreciate it.

    Thanks!

Linda_C I just discovered that sharing Loop items and components externally with guests doesn't work when Purview Information Protection is on / in use. 🤪

    Really? REALLY?

Sorry for sounding annoyed, but it seems like a massive oversight to force a trade-off between privacy and usability.

Loop just died in our company and also for all our customers. We are an MSP that enables Purview MIP by default for all clients.

PLEASE make it compatible with MIP. Thanks!

I just spent almost a week building out a workspace to share with a sub-contractor, massive brain dump that Loop organized brilliantly, to stumble on this constraint. Unreal this was a gotcha.

Is there a way to share an entire Loop workspace in view-only mode, allowing others to view the full collection of pages within the workspace without editing privileges? I’m aware that I can set permissions per page, but I’d like to share the entire workspace in view-only mode instead. Thank you in advance for your support.

🤔 That's not possible at the moment. Guests can be either Editor or Owner within workspaces. The permission level like "Visitor" or "Viewer" is not available yet.

Can the guests (people outside organization) that had been members of the loop workspace tagged to tasks?

The guest sharing feature seems to be partially available in our tenant, even though you mentioned it would be generally available in July. When will it be fully available for our tenant?

Currently, I can add guest users only when creating a new workspace, but I cannot add guests to existing workspaces or pages. I observe the following Graph API calls to search for guests when I can find guest users to add, but this only happens when I create a workspace.

    https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/users?$select=id,userPrincipalName,mail,displayName,userType&$top=3&$filter=userType%20eq%20%27Guest%27&$search=%22displayName:foobar%22%20OR%20%22mail:foobar%22%20OR%20%22userPrincipalName:foobar%22

Can I proceed with creating a new workspace with guests, expecting the full feature to become available in the near future?

Do you have a more concrete timeline for when organizations using sensitivity labels will be able to share loop components/workspaces with B2B guests? If not, is there a preview we can join? This is a feature we are really looking forward to testing out. Thanks.
