What’s new in Microsoft 365 Copilot in PowerPoint at Ignite 2024

If your organization is looking to leverage Copilot in PowerPoint to create, edit, and help present, now with this new Copilot PowerPoint Starter Template and support article, you and your team have a blueprint for how to create Copilot-friendly branded templates. This ensures that your employees will be able to create branded decks and easily design branded slides with Copilot. Find the template and instructions here. 

Create on-brand, relevant presentations in minutes 

Creating compelling presentations with the right story, information, and branding can be challenging. Copilot helps you build a branded draft in minutes, so starting from scratch isn’t as daunting. Here are new capabilities coming that will help you create relevant, on-brand presentations: 

Narrative Builder grounds on a file, helping you steer your story with relevant information in a new presentation  

Creating a new presentation can be challenging. With a simple prompt and a file, Copilot’s Narrative Builder transforms your work into a compelling narrative. This gives you the flexibility to steer the story up front, helping you create a draft that has the right flow and the right information. You will be able to include one Word documents and encrypted Word document, and Copilot will pull in information from the text in your document. Available starting in January 2025.

Add topics that are grounded on a file in Narrative Builder  

After entering your prompt and seeing the outline of your narrative, now you can add topics that include a Word doc or an encrypted Word doc. This helps you fine-tune your story, helping Copilot to create a first-draft deck with relevant topics and information. Available starting November 2024.

Organization image support for Templafy, in addition to SharePoint Organization Asset Library 

Copilot will use images stored in asset libraries, including SharePoint Organization Asset Library and now Templafy. Copilot will allow users create presentations with their organization's images seamlessly integrated. You’ll also be able to see the source of the brand image in speaker notes. This saves time and helps ensure presentations are on brand. Available starting in the first quarter of 2025. Learn more about connection SharePoint OAL to Copilot here.

Easily iterate and refine, from the text to design 

Going in and getting the right copy and content for each slide takes time and effort. Copilot in PowerPoint makes this process seamless by helping you edit and refine your slides with ease, including: 

Copilot helps you rewrite text on your slide 

Copilot in PowerPoint will help you quickly rewrite the text on your slide. You can auto-write, condense the amount of text, and make the copy more professional. Copilot will fix grammar, spelling errors, and increase readability without changing the meaning. Available starting in December 2024.

Find and add in brand, stock, or generated images 

Images in presentations matter – they can make or break the look and feel of the information you’re sharing. Now with Copilot in PowerPoint (and Word) you can create the perfect AI-generated image with a simple prompt, pull in the ideal stock photo, or add in the ideal brand image. To do this, just open Copilot and prompt Copilot to:  

  •  “Create an image…” and Copilot will generate the image 
  • “Find an image…” and Copilot will find options from Microsoft’s stock photography library, or  
  • “Find a brand image…” and Copilot will find options from your connected SharePoint organization asset library.

Publish or get ready to present with Copilot 

Sharing the final version or presenting can be nerve-wracking, but Copilot is here to help you shine. With features like auto-generated speaker notes, animations, and transitions, your presentations will look professional and captivating. Whether it's a big keynote or a team meeting, Copilot helps you nail your delivery with ease and impact. Now there will be even more value to help you deliver your presentation for your audience: 

Presentation translation 

Translation can be time-consuming and costly, even for a quick presentation for internal training or team meetings. With Copilot’s presentation translation, you cantranslate an entire PowerPoint into one of 40 languages, maintaining the design integrity of each slide. These are the same languages currently supported by Copilot, with small nuances of only supporting English and Spanish (and not location specific versions). Copilot will translate the text in text boxes shapes, tables, charts, speaker notes, comments, and smart-art. It saves time and money, and promotes inclusivity. This feature will be generally available with Copilot in PowerPoint on the web beginning in December and desktop and Mac in January.

Copilot will add speaker notes to all your slides 

Creating speaker notes for PowerPoint presentations can be a daunting and time-consuming task, especially for long presentations. Soon you’ll be able to add speaker notes using Copilot. Copilot will automatically generates notes for all your slides, providing a solid first draft for your notes that you can refine as needed. This saves time and effort, helps ensure consistency across the presentations, and makes it easier to deliver a polished, professional presentation. Available starting in January 2025.
