Discover enhanced rewrites, table features, and data visualization with Copilot in Word. Boost productivity with new formatting options for seamless document creation.

I'm super excited to share some awesome updates we've rolled out for Copilot in Word. Formatting documents and creating tables often takes an underrated amount of time, and I think you're going to love these new features that help make the process much simpler!

Visualize Data with Enhanced Tables

One of the coolest things about Copilot in Word is the ability to select text and generate a table. We've taken this feature up a notch by adding more support for formatting, including font and cell styling. This enhancement that rolled out in October, makes it easier than ever to create visually appealing and well-organized tables.

How to Get Started

Getting started with these new features is a breeze. Just select a section of your document, then prompt Copilot with what you'd like to do.

Here I am starting with (dummy) bulleted text within a Microsoft Word doc to visualize Personas to demonstrate which buyer group is most profitable with the highest growth potential:

Persona firmographics (fictitious data to demonstrate functionality):

  • Cohort A
    • Company size: 1-20
    • LTV average: 1500
    • Volume: 20,000
    • Sales Cycle: 3 Mos
    • Total revenue: $30M
  • Cohort B
    • Company size: 20 –100
    • LTV average: 15,000
    • Volume: 1500
    • Sales Cycle: 6 Mos
    • Total revenue: $22.5M
  • Cohort C:
    • Company size: >100
    • LTV average: $3500
    • Volume: 500
    • Sales Cycle: 18 Mos
    • Total revenue: $1.75M

Select all text you want to convert into a table, right-click then click Copilot.

Then select “Visualize as a table.”

Copilot will then build out your table and ask if you would like to "keep it” or make changes. It will also preserve your original bulleted text in case you want to compare or make any changes before deleting.

Pro Tip: Copy and paste data in from Excel to auto-visualize with Copilot

Prompt: "Highlight table cell within the Sales Cycle column. Make 3 Mos green, 6 Mos orange, and 18 Mos red"

To make this table more effective I wanted to add background colors to the cells

Pro Tip: Add additional formatting requests such as making the text bold and font color white

Prompt: "in the total revenue column only: highlight the background in rows A and B with green, and highlight the background of row C in red"

I liked how that looked and decided to add emphasis to the "Total Revenue" column as well.

Now before I hit "Keep it", I am going to ask Copilot to center all text so it looks nice and clean.

Pro Tip: Add additional formatting requests, such as making the text bold and changing the font color to white.

Prompt: "In the total revenue column only: highlight the background in rows A and B with green, and highlight the background of row C in red."

Once the table was built, I edited the table directly in Word, shortening the headers so they were all on one line. Here is what the final table looks like, which took me only a couple of minutes to create. No mess, no fuss!

Now I can visually show my (fictitious) sales manager that Cohort A is the most profitable with the greatest accelerated growth potential.
