Ianskee - thanks for reaching out.
The provisioning package DOES NOT push any print drivers. Its just pushes a light-weight utility that runs in background, monitors user login and adds admin selected printers (in CSV file) to the user's device.
Universal Print is built for users to print without drivers. It uses the built-in functionality of Windows to work with PWG's IPP standard. We are working closely with OEMs to support this platform and enable all print options. There are three possibilities:
- OEM has firmware update or new printers that make them talk to Universal Print directly - this is the best solution as OEMs integrate all their print options directly and use IPP protocol. We have tried to compile the list of links that point to OEM specific printers - https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/universal-print/fundamentals/universal-print-partner-integrations#universal-print-ready-printers
- OEMs have released or tested specific drivers that work best with Universal Print - each vendor has their own list of such drivers. E.g. Sharp has published the guidelines here - https://aka.ms/UP_Sharp
- Some OEMs may not have published any guidelines - we try our best to interpret the print options on the connector from the drivers customers use. We typically recommend customers to use different driver if one doesn't work as expected (for example in some cases global driver may work better than model specific driver whereas in some cases it may be opposite). If you continue to have issues - you can open a support case (via Universal Print portal -> Help and Support option on left navigation bar). We will try our best to help out.
Thanks,
Saurabh
