Data is the new bacon. Truer words could not have been spoken in the age of Internet of Things and yet how do we as IT Professionals prepare? Or worse.... Are we even involved in the discussion? I have seen first hand how things can go awry when IT Professionals are left out of the conversation with Business Decision Makers and Developers. Its not pretty and IT always gets blamed even when they are not involved.
Enter Microsoft Ignite, a yearly conference that provides technical resources and networking opportunities in support of upskilling, which this year has a whopping 52 sessions covering IoT. While not all sessions specifically target IT Operations, here are a couple you should attend:
- BRK1025 - Preparing for IoT in IT: Microsoft's IoT Vision and Roadmap: A great session to start your IoT journey. Sam George, Director of IoT Azure at Microsoft, will share how Microsoft has undertaken the journey to enable organizations to harness IoT responsibly and securely.
- BRK3045 - Deploy and manage IoT solutions: IoT for IT Pros: Oliver Bloch, PM Azure IoT, will deliver a technical walkthrough of deploying and managing IoT solutions on behalf of the organization you support.
- BRK3046 - Security for the Internet of Things (IoT): From the edge to the cloud: Security is always top of mind for IT Operations and why should IoT be any different. Arjmand Samuel, Principal Program Manager for Azure IoT, will address what IT Professionals need to be aware of when securing provisioned IoT devices and how to mitigate attacks before they occur.
- THR2115 - Ninja skills on IoT projects: Notes from the field: Microsoft MVP Marcos Nogueira will share his real world experience on what to expect when deploying Azure IoT. This theatre session will detail how to address issues when deploying Azure IoT and how the sensor data is captured and stored.
As mentioned, there are 52 sessions covering IoT at MS Ignite. Be sure to fill your schedule with these and other sessions you feel will help you further your IoT upskilling journey.
