Application lifecycle management for healthcare data solutions in Microsoft Fabric
Healthcare data solutions in Microsoft Fabric released support for Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) for your custom data solutions. This new capability provides common tooling for your team to manage and deploy their work on enterprise data solutions during development and release processes.
What is ALM?
A key element in developing enterprise solutions is an Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) plan. ALM is the lifecycle management of applications and includes governance, development and maintenance. ALM tools provide a standardized system for collaboration between various teams and team members, automating the processes related to software development and product delivery. Developing enterprise solutions can be a complex process, and collaboration between several teams and team members is critical to the success of such a project.
Microsoft Fabric includes tools to support Application Lifecycle Management (ALM), such as Git integration and deployment pipelines. These tools:
- Provide a standardized system for communication and collaboration among development team members.
- Facilitate quick product releases with continuous updates and efficient delivery methods.

Healthcare data solutions ALM support
We recently introduced official support for Fabric’s ALM capabilities in healthcare data solutions. This means that you can connect your healthcare data solutions workspace to a Git repository like Azure DevOps and commit all of its items to your repository.
Healthcare data solutions includes several items as part of its deployment- this includes lakehouses, notebooks, sample data, and custom configurations. These items require some additional steps for deployment between workspaces outside of the platform ALM support. To assist in these extra steps, the team is providing an ALM helper notebook. This notebook can be executed manually or via the Fabric APIs to ensure that all of your healthcare data solutions items are properly deployed to each workspace.
