Bogus event 2505

Heya folks, Ned here again. A few customers have reported this known issue on Windows 11 machines & you may see this event at boot up and perhaps occasionally afterwards. In the Event Log, in the System channel, you see:

Log Name: System
Source: Server
Date: 10/25/2021 3:01:46 PM
Event ID: 2505
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: N/A
Computer: darbydoo
Description:
The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{C0E1EDC5-9B33-4911-A3B3-AE69C8115AF6} because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start.

This can be seen when booting up, repeatedly disabling and enabling a RDMA NIC, or by a network adapter that goes offline and online for some reason. This leads to multiple SMB server service notifications about the same network interface that has already been bound to the SMB server. You can ignore this event's description, there is not a duplicate computer and the Server service is not stopped. This SMB event is purely cosmetic. We plan to fix this in a later update to Windows.

Update 8/8/2022

Hi everyone. I've been gone for a few months, not ignoring your comments. Important clarifying point: your reported issues of network disconnects have nothing to do with this SMB event and blog post. You have a legitimate but separate issue. The SMB event is just a symptom of a disconnected network in general - there's nothing going on here with SMB and no way for me to help you, as much as I'd like to. You need to work with your PC's manufacturer or MS Support to troubleshoot the networking itself.

This event happens since Window 11 upgrade when I use an external Hyper-V switch ot get a linux VM into internet and local network. Every time the hole network connection gets interrupted and resets after a view seconds.

This is also disrupting our Quickbooks connection. Our owner purchased a new PC with Win11, and now everyone who connects to the company file on the her PC with Win11 gets kicked out randomly/often. The timelines for them being kicked out of the file align perfectly with these errors in the event viewer. Any fix for this?

Edit: We had been receiving the error every 7 seconds in the system Event Viewer since Christmas. We ended up returning the PC because on top of these issues, there were a few unexpected shutdowns that also occurred, which I personally think this error message caused (no power issues on other pc's). I strongly recommended to my boss that we get her another windows 10 machine or wait until windows 11 is business ready. We bought 2 of the same model PC's for our registers, but they both have win10 and 0 issues like this (they're constantly talking over the network without disconnecting).

NedPyleSame problem and same error message here. On pc startup, with a fixed ip, the Ethernet connection goes to "public" mode instead of "private" and network discovery no longer works. I have to disable the network card and re-enable it to get back to private mode and network discovery. This is very frustrating. Thank you Microsoft for solving the problem as soon as possible.

The event occurs usually over night and in the moring I have no Internet access, until I unplug and plug back the cable or disable/enable the ethernet adapter.
Definityely not just a cosmetic for me.

If this error occurs while downloading the Hyper-V Quick Create image, the network connection will be temporarily lost and Quick Create will not complete.

This does not seem to be just cosmetic.

When ever this happens I get kicked off my VM Ware Horizon Client connection to my work virtual desktop and have to relaunch
