From everybody that works in a modern way (sharing online) I have a request to the Excel team:
:light_bulb: Please focus on Excel Online for the next few dev cycles to bring it up to speed with desktop and Google Sheets, with two overarching criteria:
- feature parity with desktop in all basic areas.
- This means everything on the Home tab, plus any basic missing features from elsewhere.
- UX and feature parity with Google Sheets
- This means not just features, but the UX... especially in the sharing and collaboration features
Why should you do this? Because in this day and age we shouldn't need Google Sheets - with Microsoft's huge resources you could boost Excel Online so that it blows Sheets out of the water! But you're losing the battle with young people in start-ups - they choose Sheets. Very frustrating.
But if Excel Online was just as good, this will have a knock-on effect on the rest of the M365 suite - people will start to use it as an online collaboration tool more and more in their everyday work. Meaning the old-school desktop types will change a bit, but you'll also have the start-ups on board. UX is king!
You're doing great work - this is just a request for a temporary change of focus
