Implementing Python in Excel is a great first step in empowering Excel. The next step would be CUDA/OpenCL support in Excel to dramatically speed up calculations. This has been proposed over a decade ago, but still not implemented after the power of GPUs has grown exponentially in recent years. The concept was first demonstrated in an example in Nvidia’s CUDA SDK 3.1 “Microsoft Excel GPGPU example showing how to run an Excel function on the GPU”. The feature has been requested and asked about in online forums numerous times. Apparently Microsoft is the best party to implement this feature natively in Excel. This will solve problems where Microsoft Cloud may not be the best option, and empower users to do more with Excel with less time.
