Interim guidance on 2021 time zone updates for Fiji

As a result of the October 10th order from the Fijian Government, Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the Republic of Fiji will not be observed in 2021. Hence, clocks will not be forwarded by an hour at 02:00 on November 14, 2021.

Microsoft plans to release an update to support this change; however, there may be insufficient time to properly build, test, and release such an update before the change goes into effect. In the meantime, we recommend that organizations with devices in the Republic of Fiji temporarily disable automatic DST adjustments in Windows to reflect the correct local time between November 14, 2021 and January 16, 2022.

This can be done in one of the two ways:

  • Select the Windows logo key, type "Date and time", and select Date and time settings. From the Date & time settings page, toggle Adjust for daylight saving time automatically to Off.
  • Go to Control Panel Clock and Region Date and Time Change time zone and uncheck the option for “Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time”.

After 03:00 on January 16, 2022 , follow the steps below to re-enable automatic DST adjustments and ensure accurate time switching with future DST transitions.

  • Select the Windows logo key, type "Date and time", and select Date and time settings. From the Date & time settings page, toggle Adjust for daylight saving time automatically to On.
  • Go to Control Panel Clock and Region Date and Time Change time zone and check the option for “Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time”.

For Microsoft's official policy on DST and time zone changes, please see Daylight saving time help and support. For information on how to update Windows to use the latest global time zone rules, see How to configure daylight saving time for Microsoft Windows operating systems.

I agree with the comments that this issue is still standing and is problematic for all the reasons. Outlook web calendar, teams, Outlook (client), and the phone app do work in synchronization. They show different times and also external parties, especially those that are based off-shore do not get the correct time.

Initially, as a fallback method - I had advised my users to use UTC +12  as an interim solution to sort out their meeting invitations as that timezone was giving the correct local time and with this particular timezone not observing DST, things were looking slightly better for one week until some of them reported that the calendars have unsynced again.

Looking forward to an update released via Windows Update as this messes up the entire work schedule and it gets really difficult to keep track of meetings, appointments, etc.

We are having lots of issues with outlook calendar events scheduling using mobile devices. The phones are still showing 1 hour difference even if DLS has been turned off on the phone device.

Any ETA on the MS fix?

It's an issue/bug on Windows 11! We switch off "Adjust for daylight saving time automatically" in Settings, the time goes one hour back to correct time (in the Settings app) but the time on the taskbar stays an hour head!

Time on Microsoft Teams is one hour ahead!

Outlook and Teams calendar events also is an hour ahead!

Teams Calendar is not reflecting the correct time and meeting schedules. Outlook calendar is not integrated with teams. Teams Calendar shows meetings one hour ahead.

Now that the 14 November has come, we note that Outlook meetings are being changed automatically, even after making the suggested changes in Outlook and time and date settings.  When sending outlook calendar invitations to external parties, the invitation is put on the original calendar at the correct time, but arrivng at the invitee's calendar an hour earlier.
