Interim guidance for Alberta time zone changes 2026
We received the new Alberta time zone in the October 2026 Windows Server updates.
All y'all missed the British Columbia time zone that was legislated in March of 2026 and left us scrambling this morning.
Pacific Time (PCT), set at UTC−07:00 year-round
Could we get an update for this too please?
This one?
And yeah, I don't know why it's sorted up between a -9 and a -8, when it should be down with Arizona/Yukon time....Alberta and MB are sorted weird, too....

Yeah, that is the one.
Get-TimeZone Pac^^^
On up to date servers that does not show the "Pacific Time (British Columbia)" as an option.- BisonBrianTownsendNov 02, 2026Tin Contributor
Which Server OS?
I checked my BC servers running 2019
Your Get-TimeZone without any flags would be using ID which is not PAC- Mike2068Nov 02, 2026Tin Contributor
Just an update from our fun day...
It turned out that updating the calendar time zone on Outlook Classic did not update the mailbox regional setting in Exchange Online, New Outlook (I think) and Outlook on the Web did. I scriptd the change to Alberta Time zone for any mailboxes still on Mountain Time; we do have some in other time zones which were not affected by these changes.
Also, had to script the change to all of our Sharepoint sites to update their Time Zones which Microsoft had made available about a week prior. The default in the admin center had also been changed but as each site has their own regional settings, a script was necessary.
The MAC was a fun one too, we have a few MAC users and they had to update to the Teams client release October 22 for meeting times and IMs to show correctly. I see there's a newer one even now rolling out from Oct 29.
Some meetings that were pre-scheduled before Nov 1 had to manually updated (this is both MAC and Windows) and of course same for recurring. In some cases I could see the tim zone tied directly to the meeting and could update it; others were grayed out so had to rebook them.I had a few folks reach out with time issues and it turned out they hadn't even restarted to invoke the Oct security updates to get the new time zones onto their machines. Gotta love the ones who like to keep a machine running until apps start breaking before restarting!
