Description:
Please write every extent to 2/3 locations on each site with RDMA / Layer 2,
to avoid the complexity of the network design with Storage Replica and to
get a fast storage systems like mirrored storage systems.
We want to migrate from mirrored SAN-storage systems to Azure Stack HCI.
We wann to spend the money we took for mirrored SAN-storage systems in Azure Stack HCI Core licenses,
if Microsoft releases this feature.
Today
- Customers do mirrored SAN storage (synchronous) between datacenters ( 100m …. 20km)
Problems
- Customers want to migrate to Azure Stack HCI
- Customers want to get rid of 3 tier architecture with SAN switches, SAN systems and the complexity
- Customers do not get enough employees for administration the SAN storage anymore
- Customers do not want to pay for the expensive licences for a drive, mirroring, snapshot, etc. in a SAN system
Challenges
- Storage Replica is to slow (high write latency on high IO) and network topology is to complex
- Customers today! (ask MVPs / system integrator / partners) use S2D with 2019/2022 with 4 node stretched clusters with RDMA, which is not supported
-a high risk, when one site is completely down (one more fault of a drive in the remaining site, and the whole cluster ist down)
- Customers could use S2D with Azure Stack HCI with 4 node “stretched” clusters too, but there are the same problems like with S2D with 2019/2022
Advantages
- Customers get a fully mirrored, high available stretched HCI system between datacenters with very low latency and ultrafast storage system.
- Customers get a mirrored storage systems that’s miles faster than a traditional 3 tier architecture
- Customers do not get the complexity in SAN storage any more Customers do not need to pay for the expensive SAN systems any more Customers cloud use there money for Azure Stack HCI
- Customers with 4 node stretched clusters could migrate to Azure Stack HCI to get more fault tolerance and to get support
Questions
- Is there any other solution from any major vendor who could do this?
- When can we get this? 😉
