I agree that DaemonSet configuration could be a great thing to think when looking for HA on ingress side, however with DaemonSet, you guarantee one replica per node and with that distributing the replicas evenly across all nodes in the cluster, allowing for faster and more efficient load balancing, but in use cases of a inbound traffic spike or high demand for Ingress resources, you do not ensure the scalability, since you cannot configure HPA on a DaemonSet scenario.
I think there's a trade-off to think, and not so straight forward deploying an nginx controller via DaemonSet.
