When and How to Update Statistics in Azure SQL Database

Mohamed, thank you. But what I am hearing is that the Azure robots are not as good as doing this automatically as they should be. It almost reads as: "hold until you have an issue, then fix". Unfortunately, that is not an approach I can afford, so I will be proactively updating stats and indexes based on Ola Hallengren's work.
It almost begs the question what the advantage of Azure SQL is. Latency and IO speed is not it, now DB maintenance is not it....
