Thanks for sharing the recording Jose_Manuel_Jurado. I LOVE THIS SESSION !
It's clear that We need to invite Jose and Juan more and we plan to
I want to emphasize to all readers, that recording a meeting is not the same as participating in the meeting (even if virtual) and it's far from being part of the meeting live. I am not promoting our User Group specifically but speaking about all Live sessions that you can participate.
First of all, a live meeting provides you with the opportunity to interact directly with other participants and of course with the speakers, ask questions or comments, meet old friends and make new connections. It's a gathering of the community and not just a video. I would like to see you all in future meetings.
Please remember that the recording of Teams meeting does not include the chat, which means that you probably miss some questions, answers and interesting discussions. In this meeting we had tens of comments & questions which say it all about how good the session was
I scrolled through the chat and I bring you a tiny tiny taste of some of the questions came up in the chat:
> (Q) So your env is a mixed one? on premise and Azure MI?
(A) Ronen: The session compares on-premise and Azure MI, as well as a mixed environment.
Update: For more information pls check the recording, as we discuss this.
> (Q) Can we have the recording and slides later? I mean presentation PPTs
(A) Follow the Data Driven Community for more information (or follow me in Facebook/LinkedIn) we will share the information about the recording and session's materials.
Update: The recording is online on YouTube as you can see in this post, and we shared the presentation file and the code files at OneDrive.
> (Q) If I use Azure MI, can I just match the vcores I have on premise to Azure MI?
(A) Ronen: This is a good starting point in my opinion, but you will need to test it. There are multiple parameters including what Jose mentioned for example, which is the type of the hardware (For example, not the same CPU speed as you use on-premises probably)
> (C) Comment related to backups - Ronen: Remember (my approach at least) that "A backup that was not restored (tested) is not a backup we can count on!". Always test your backup from time to time and make sure you know how to use it when needed...
> (Q) Backup from Azure MI and restore to on premise SQL Server, is this a preview?
(A) No. It is global available.
> (Q) on premise SQL Server needs to be 2022?
(A) Ronen: To take the backup from MI to On-premises, you must have 2022, but for the other direction no.
> (Q) 2022 stand or enterprise edition?
(A) Juan Moreno Romo: The database format alignment between SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server 2022 gives you an easy way to copy or move databases from your managed instance to a SQL Server 2022 instance with Enterprise, Developer, or Standard edition installed, that's hosted on-premises, on virtual machines in Azure, or in other clouds.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/azure-sql/managed-instance/restore-database-to-sql-server?view=azuresql&tabs=managed-identity#overview
> (Q) Can we run/schedule a SQL agent job to generate the reports in the Performance Dashboard? Or they are only accessible thru SSMS? Thanks
(A) Ronen: The Agent is a service which has no GUI, but you can use the agent to schedule task to get the same data you have in the SSMS Dashboard report...
Update: Highly recommend to check the recording for more information as we discuss this a bit at the end of the session. In general you can get a lot of information from the profiler as well as from Extended Events.
...
Thanks again to everyone who joined the session and a huge thanks to our speakers Jose_Manuel_Jurado and Juan E. Moreno Romo.
I hope you all enjoyed the meeting as much as I did and we will see you at a future meetings
