You can now customize the return value from your pipeline!

We'd like to retrieve that pipeline return value using Microsoft's Python SDK azure-synapse-artifacts · PyPI

Can you please make sure that the pipeline return value will also be retrievable via that API?

I think changes are required here: https://github.com/Azure/azure-sdk-for-python/blob/main/sdk/synapse/azure-synapse/azure/synapse/artifacts/models/_models_py3.py#L15816C8-L15816C8

Is there any possibility to return a secure string to the parent pipeline? It seems to me that the "Set variable" activity can't take in secure outputs, and I can only pass parameters from parent to child, not the other way around. Or is there anything I've missed?

We ran into the same issue and we opened a support request for this .

Microsoft acknowledged that this is bug, but so far not ETA for a fix 😞

Thank you very much for this post, this feature is really nice indeed 🙂

However, I'm trying to use the pipeline return value with an Object type.

Although I can add a dynamic content when selecting Object type, the pipeline fails when triggered without detail as you can see in the expression below.

I have carefully read the documentation, and I am not sure if it is possible to parse an expression to define an Object type return value, or if it is only working with string?

I just started with Azure Data Factory in Dec 2022.   I wanted to create common pipelines for code reuse.  At that time, pipelines could not return values.  I wanted to contact Microsoft and ask for this feature.  Now on Feb 16, 2023 this is available.  I have already put this to use.  LOVE IT!!  Please keep these types of features coming.  I now have a forum for asking questions as I just joined this Tech Community.   THANKS AGAIN!!!!

Mark Kromer & Noelle_Li are there plans to make the result of the root pipeline visible in the (top-level) monitoring screen?

Currently you'd need to drill into the pipeline execution and look at the output of the Set Variable activity. I think it would be great to have this information already visible in the pipeline overview.
