Introducing the Properties Pane to Azure Data Factory

In the coming days, you will see a small change to your Azure Data Factory authoring experience. What used to be the General tab is moving to a brand new properties pane on the right-hand side of the authoring canvas.

The properties pane will only apply to top-level resources such as Pipelines, Datasets, and Data Flows. It will contain properties such as name, description, annotations and other high-level properties. Sub-resources such as Pipeline activities and Data Flow transformations will continue to be editable via the panel at the bottom of the canvas.

The properties pane will only be open by default on resource creation. To edit it, click on the properties pane icon located in the top-right corner of the canvas.

While currently it will only contain the contents of the General tab, this pane will be built out to include other useful information such as related resources. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

  • DanielPerlovskyTBH the GUI is good enough for us as it is, that it is fully backed by Git is great!

More focus on actual non-Data Flow features would be much appreciated. E.g. more support dynamic properties in a.o. Stored Procedure parameter names, to increase the flexibility for power users like my team would help us much more.

    H

I want to view the source code in the text box, but the middle panel is very   short.

How do I expand the left middle panel?

  • Patrick2516 You can collapse it by clicking on the properties pane button in the top right. It should not open by default if a resource has been created prior. The mapping details looks like an issue if you could share more details in a private message!

How do we use these properties in release pipeline, if we want to change the values per environment.
