Hey PaddyWorks thanks for your comment. A best practice to load data is to make sure the data is within the same region. I would also advise to ensure you have enough IOPS while loading data in the Azure MySQL. 

 

We have a new offering from Azure Database for MySQL called Azure Database for MySQL Flexible Server which is optimized for the best performance. 

 

I also encourage you to trying loading data into Azure Database for MySQL using ADF, this is the most seamless and easy way to do it.
