Access Microsoft Edge Legacy/Classic (EdgeHTML) after installing the new version of Microsoft Edge (Chromium) This article describes how to access Microsoft Edge Legacy (version 45 and earlier) after installing the new version of Microsoft Edge. Note: This article applies to the Microsoft Edge Stable channel. The procedures in this article apply to systems that have been updated with the latest security updates, up to and including November 2019. When the new version of Microsoft Edge is installed, the old version (Microsoft Edge Legacy) will be hidden. All attempts to launch the old version will redirect the user to the newly installed version of Microsoft Edge. Before you begin Before using the detailed instructions in this article, consider the following 2 steps to enable a side-by-side browser experience. These steps will let your users run Microsoft Edge Legacy and the next version of Microsoft Edge (Beta channel) side-by-side. Prevent the automatic install of the next version of Microsoft Edge by Windows Update. For more information, see Windows Update: FAQ Install the Beta channel of the new version of Microsoft Edge. Note This side-by-side solution is less complex and requires less management that the detailed solution described next in this article. How operating system (OS) changes are triggered After the systems are fully updated and the Stable channel of the next version of Microsoft Edge is installed, the following registry key and value is set: Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\ClientState\{56EB18F8-B008-4CBD-B6D2-8C97FE7E9062} Key value: BrowserReplacement Important This key is over-written every time the Microsoft Edge Stable channel is updated. As a best practice, we recommend that you don’t delete this key to allow users to access both versions of Microsoft Edge. How to enable a side-by-side experience with both versions of Microsoft Edge Installing the Stable channel of the next version of Microsoft Edge at system-level will cause the current version (Microsoft Edge Legacy) to be hidden. If you want to let your users to see both versions of Microsoft Edge side-by-side in Windows, you can enable this experience by setting the Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience group policy to "Enabled". To enable the side by side browser experience policy: Open the Group Policy Editor. Under Computer Configuration, go to Administrative Templates>Microsoft Edge Update>Applications. Under Applications, select "Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience" and then click Edit policy setting. Select Enabled and then click OK. Note By default, this group policy is set to "Not configured", which results in Microsoft Edge Legacy being hidden when the new version of Microsoft Edge is installed. For the best experience, the Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience should be enabled before the new version of Microsoft Edge is deployed to your users' devices. If the group policy is enabled after Microsoft Edge is deployed, there are the following side effects and required actions: Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience won't take effect until after the installer for the new version of Microsoft Edge is run again. Note The installer can be run directly or automatically when the new version of Microsoft Edge updates. Microsoft Edge Legacy will need to be re-pinned to Start or the Taskbar because the pin is migrated when the new version of Microsoft Edge was deployed. Sites that were pinned to Start or the Taskbar for Microsoft Edge Legacy will be migrated to the new version of Microsoft Edge. I have installed Edge Canary (Version 84.0.524.0) on Windows 10. We use Jitsi Meet for our conferences, "https://meet.jit.si". When we use Chrome to join, we are able to see a list of other open windows (such as Word, Powerpoint etc) and chose one to share. But with Edge, none of those windows are getting listed. Is it something to do with OS level permission that we have not enabled ? I have searched a lot on the net but could not figure out what might be causing this issue.Solved11KViews0likes5CommentsSuggestion: add Progress Bar and Next/Prev options to the PiP (Picture in Picture) in Edge browser
Suggestion: add Progress Bar and Next/Prev options to the PiP (Picture in Picture) in Edge browser Here is a video of my side by side comparison of PiP in Edge Canary Version 83.0.461 and PiP in Windows 10 Movies & TV app which is the superior one. Also allow to control that progress bar in PiP. use the same small minimal style from the app on Windows 10 but on mouse hover, the progress bar needs to get bigger and come Up so user can control it and click on it. Thanks. https://streamable.com/rocr2Solved6.2KViews7likes12CommentsIs the final version of the new Edge gonna be included in the Windows 10 20H1?
The development is going fast, Mac version and Beta version of the new Edge are already leaked to the public, so i think it's safe to assume that the stable and final version of the new Edge will be included in the Windows 10 20H1 and it will replace both the current Edge (spartan) and the Internet explorer. right?Solved5.6KViews6likes20CommentsProblem with PWA icons on Start menu on Edge dev
When installing a website, such as Instagram, as PWA in Edge dev (Version 88.0.685.3), the Instagram icon appears in the apps list of Start menu, at the top under "recently added" list (not pinned yet). when you drag & drop it on the Start menu to Pin it, it will have a small centered icon. but if you go to edge://apps/ and Pin Instagram's icon from there then Instagram's icon will be in normal big size in the Start menu Left side is big and normal, right side is very small pea-sized icon created by drag & drop. Instagram is one of the websites used as example, the same thing happens to Twitter, YouTube, Bing etc (tried all of them). see if you can reproduce it and send feedback through browser (preferably with "recreate my problem") Windows 10 20H2 latest version5.6KViews1like6Comments[FIXED] Legacy Edge extensions on Windows store after installing the new Edge
Today I came across this extension when browsing Windows store https://www.microsoft.com/store/productId/9P59WXTBHZZM I could install it without any issue but the thing is it doesn't work when I have the Stable version of Chromium based Edge installed. clicking "launch" opens the new Edge only, nothing else happens. I think the proper way to handle this situation is to either hide these extensions from Windows store once the new Edge is installed, OR show a message to user that: "it's not compatible with the current installed version of Edge browser". My suggestion is to add the new Chromium based Add-ons to the Windows store to be easily available and installed by users. https://microsoftedge.microsoft.com/Solved5KViews4likes8CommentsMicrosoft will NOT be pushing out the new Edge via Windows Update to everyone
So previously there was this post from this source saying Microsoft will be pushing out the new Edge via Windows Update to the majority of Windows 10 users, but the documentation on Microsoft's website has changed now, here are the newly added information: Update 01/09/2020 To help our customers become more secure and up-to-date, Microsoft will distribute Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) to Home and Pro Edition devices running Windows 10 version 1803 via Windows Update. This process will start after January 15th, 2020 and more information will be available on that date. The Blocker Toolkit is intended for organizations that would like to block automatic delivery of Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based) on devices running Windows 10 version 1803 and newer that are running the Home or Pro Edition of Windows. All other versions and Editions of Windows are excluded from being updated automatically. Devices running Windows 10 Home or Pro Edition that are joined to an Active Directory or Azure Active Directory domain, are MDM managed, or are WSUS or WUfB managed, will also be excluded from this automatic update." No enterprise versions of Windows will be automatically updated, meaning the Blocker Toolkit is just needed if you run Home and Pro on your enterprise network, and if they are not joined to a Domain. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/DeployEdge/microsoft-edge-blocker-toolkit4.9KViews2likes6CommentsAn error occurred while checking for updates: Failed to cache the downloaded installer
