Welcome to What’s new in Teams, Ignite 2025 edition! This year at Microsoft Ignite we’re excited to share all the ways that Teams + Copilot are amplifying collaboration, automating workflows, and enhancing productivity. With Copilot and agents in chats, meetings, and channels, Teams and Copilot together provide a powerful solution. One new feature I’m excited to share is Teams Mode for Microsoft 365 Copilot. This powerful new capability lets you bring coworkers into your Copilot conversations, essentially turning an individual AI chat into a shared, group AI collaboration. You can choose which messages you’d like to share with the group; any prompts or responses not selected are kept private. Then, your team can brainstorm and create with Copilot together, with everyone able to ask questions and see suggestions in a group chat. Copilot is also now seamlessly integrated into Teams channels and chats, so you can ask it to recap lengthy conversation threads, extract decisions and tasks, or answer questions based on the conversation context – a huge time saver for your busy schedule. We’re also proud to announce new enhancements to Channel Agent, Facilitator, and meeting recap notes that make them even more powerful and useful. Channel agents can generate status reports and workback plans – keeping your team on track. Facilitator can recognize when you share an agenda in the chat and use it to generate a meeting progress bar, ping meeting invitees who’ve been mentioned twice but not joined yet, and draft documents during your meeting. Meeting recaps are now more versatile too. You can choose from a variety of templates or customize your own to fit your team’s style. All of the new Teams + Copilot features debuting at Ignite 2025 underline a simple message: AI in Teams is driving tangible improvements that can help you and your team achieve more together. So read on for a look at all of the new features being released this month! Feature categories: (All features listed are generally available unless otherwise noted) Chat and Collaboration Platform Meetings, webinars, and townhalls Teams Phone Fundamentals and Security Frontline Worker Solutions Certified for Teams devices Chat and Collaboration Copilot experience in Teams The Copilot experience in Teams is being unified across chats, channels, and meetings for users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license, matching the experience in the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Beyond the updated interface, Copilot in Teams can analyze chat history, meeting transcripts, and calendar content to generate smart recaps, rewrite messages, and surface relevant insights. Whether reviewing a thread or following up after a call, Copilot delivers context-aware summaries and suggestions based on your activity and goals. This experience is now generally available for chat and channels, and is rolling out to public preview for meetings. Teams Mode for Copilot [Public preview] Teams Mode for Microsoft 365 Copilot is a simple, secure way to bring your co-workers into Copilot conversations, turning individual AI chats into group AI chats in Microsoft Teams. Now, the same Copilot you use for individual work supports group work as well. When you’d like to extend your 1:1 Copilot conversation into a group conversation, select “start a group chat” in the top-right corner of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. This creates a group chat in Teams with your colleagues and Copilot, making it easy for others to build on your work. You choose which messages you’d like to bring forward to the group, ensuring any prompts or responses you don’t want to share are kept private. You can also add Copilot to any existing Teams group chat, just like adding a teammate, to help your team research, draft, coordinate, and complete tasks with AI. Then, within the chat, each member of the group can request help from Copilot by typing copilot in the group chat and making their request. Now in public preview. See Introducing Teams Mode for Microsoft 365 Copilot for more details. Launch Demo Enhancements to Channel Agent [Public preview] Each channel can have a Channel Agent that draws on its conversations, files, and meetings to act as a domain expert for the team. These agents adopt the channel’s name and help with common tasks – for example, flagging important deadlines that are buried in conversations, and summarizing progress with succinct status reports. Channel Agent is available with a Copilot license. New enhancements now available in public preview: Status report update: stay on top of projects by at-mentioning the agent with queries like “create a status report.” Status reports will now post directly in the channel for all users. Workback Plan: share your objective and deadline with the agent, and it will automatically create a sequenced list of tasks with due dates. You can review and adjust the plan before tasks are added to Planner, making project planning simple and collaborative. Enhancements to external collaboration [Public preview] We've reimagined external collaboration in Teams to make it easier and more secure to connect with partners, vendors, and customers. These new features are designed to reduce friction, increase security, and enhance how you work with people outside your organization, while helping admins manage external collab. These features are now in public preview. Chat with anyone: users in SMB organizations can start a conversation from Teams with anyone using just their email address, even if they’re not on Teams. Whether you're working with a vendor, client, or partner, simply type their email, send your message, and they’ll receive an invitation to join the chat as a guest. From there, they both reply and start a call—just like they would if they were part of your organization. And because this experience is built on Teams’ existing guest access framework, IT admins retain control. External access policies, multifactor authentication, and organizational compliance settings are respected. Sharing a file or a Loop: Now you can share a file or a Loop component in an external chat. Whether you drag and drop, attach from your device, or paste a link, Teams recognizes the file, unfurls it in the compose box and shares it with the chat participants when you send the message. You can also adjust permissions before sending. As a recipient, you can now view the content right from the chat - no account switching required. Sharing is controlled by an admin toggle, which is off by default, giving organizations flexibility to enable or disable external sharing as needed. Trust Indicators: External users are now labeled with clear trust indicators, helping users quickly assess who they’re working with. Group chats and Meeting chats that have external users are also marked as External to drive clarity and security. Labels include external-familiar, external-unfamiliar, guest, or unverified. Activity in other accounts and organizations: users can view and respond to activity across multiple tenants without switching accounts. You can triage notifications, reply to chats, and pin tenants to the left rail for quick access. This reduces context switching and makes cross-org collaboration feel native—especially useful for users working with multiple vendors or clients. Admin Presets: Admins have access to a new overview page in the Teams admin center under the external collaboration section. This page allows admins to review and modify their organization's external collaboration settings. To make changes, admins can use a guided flow and select either the open or controlled preset modes, or choose to customize the settings. Pop out your core Teams functions into a new window [Public preview] You can now organize your work environment to fit your needs by opening Teams chat, calls, calendar, activity, and more in separate windows. This gives you the flexibility to multitask and organize your workspace the way you want. Whether you're catching up on chats while reviewing call history or managing notifications alongside your calendar, this update helps you stay productive without switching tabs. Just right-click an app icon or use the app flyout to pop it out into its own window. Forwarded Messages Links When someone forwards a message in Teams, you'll now be able to click a link that takes you straight to the original chat or channel where it came from. Note: the link works only if the recipient has access to the original conversation. This enhancement improves message traceability and helps users quickly understand the context of forwarded messages. Search in Teams Settings Teams now has a new search bar at the top of its Settings menu to help you quickly find any setting by name. Just type a keyword (like “Notifications” or “Dark mode”) to jump straight to that option without digging through menus. This saves time and makes adjusting your settings faster and easier. Collaborative space in chat and channels A persistent collaborative space is now available directly from your Teams chat and channels, helping you organize key information, co-create content, and reduce message clutter. Pages in channels are flexible collaboration pages. You can add as many pages as you need to your channels. You can also add existing Loop components or pages as their own tabs, making it easy to centralize work and keep everyone aligned. Notes in chat is available in 1:1 and group chats and is accessible only to the chat members. Use this editable collaborative space effectively by adding images, formatting text, sharing Loop components, and @mentioning chat members when you require their attention. Emojis in section names You can now choose an emoji to accompany section names in your chats and channels list, helping you organize content with a splash of personality. Whether it’s a smiley for your “Fun Projects” section or a star for “Priority Tasks,” emojis make navigation easier and more engaging, so your sections stand out at a glance. Platform Channel agents in Teams connect to Asana, Atlassian, GitHub [Public preview] Channel Agent can now connect with Asana, Atlassian, and GitHub via MCP server to execute workflows on the behalf of users. By unlocking the power of agent to MCP server communication, agents can now handle more complex tasks that involve subjects outside of their domain so they can seamlessly coordinate tasks, bridge gaps between tools, and accelerate complex projects. Security and Compliance information for more Apps and Agents Today, IT admins in the Teams admin center can view security and compliance data for apps and agents that are Microsoft 365 certified or publisher attested. This enhancement expands that visibility to include apps and agents that are not certified or attested. Where available, this data is sourced from Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (MDA) and helps admins more easily and quickly evaluate whether an app or agent meets their organization’s trust requirements. Agent and bot support for Entra authentication in group chats Agents and bots in group chats can now use Entra for secure authentication. If an agent/bot needs your Entra token in a group chat and you haven’t installed the agent/bot or granted permission yet, you’ll receive a private message that only you can see. This message will guide you through installing the Teams app and granting Entra permission, making the process simple and secure. Once you’ve completed both steps, the agent/bot will be able to access the permissions it needs—such as Microsoft Graph—so you can get the full experience without any hassle. This update gives you more control over your permissions and makes it easier for agents/bots to work smoothly in group chats. Permission and privilege level of Apps and Agents IT admins can now see which permissions an app or agent requires in the Teams admin center, along with each permission risk rating and the app's overall privilege level. This helps admins protect organizational data and make quicker, more informed approval choices. Speed up app reviews with trust-based filters Trust-based filters enable IT Administrators using Teams admin center to view and easily filter apps and agents by specific industry standards, certifications and compliance attributes such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, GDPR, and more. This will help to streamline app evaluation workflows, enabling broader access to trusted apps across the organization. Performance Audit Tool on Teams Mobile Performance Report is a mobile-first, self-serve tool that gives developers instant visibility into critical performance metrics such as app load latency, app package size, content paint times and more, alongside actionable guidance on Teams best practices. By surfacing these performance indicators with recommended thresholds, this tool streamlines diagnostics, ensures consistent benchmarking, and helps deliver higher-quality Teams Mobile apps—all on the go. Agent Analytics and App Validation Enhancements in Developer Portal The Developer Portal is expanding analytics coverage for custom engine agents to help developers track adoption and engagement with real-time insights, providing key metrics to refine and optimize agent performance. You can also validate your agent and apps in Developer Portal with new AI insights helping resolve common bugs prior to publishing. Meetings, webinars, and town halls Enhancements to Facilitator Agent Earlier this year, we introduced Facilitator to help teams run meetings that stay focused, productive, and on track. Today, we’re taking that a step further with a new set of skills designed to help your team stay aligned without extra effort. These updates combine richer context awareness with proactive support, so your team can move faster without juggling extra tools or tasks. Here’s what’s new: Facilitator can now recognize an agenda shared directly in the meeting chat, in addition to the meeting invite and meeting notes. Once detected, it automatically builds a live progress tracker at the top of the meeting, giving everyone a shared sense of where they are and what’s next. Now generally available. If someone who’s invited hasn’t joined yet, and their name comes up twice in conversation, the agent politely pings them in chat and nudges them to hop in, helping you bring the right people into the discussion at the right time. Coming next quarter. And when it’s time to turn discussion into action, you can ask Facilitator to draft documents in Word or Loop based on what was said in the meeting. It can shape the conversation into whatever output you need, whether that’s a blog, a whitepaper, or a project brief, helping your team turn ideas into action faster. This capability is currently in public preview and will be generally available in early December. As tasks are mentioned, the agent captures and assigns them. You can also direct it through chat to add, update, or reassign tasks. This capability is currently in public preview and will be generally available in early December. These new skills build on our commitment to make meetings smarter, smoother, and more collaborative, with AI that works alongside you and your team every step of the way. Meeting recap templates Staying aligned after a meeting shouldn’t mean settling for a one-size-fits-all recap. With our new customizable recap templates, you can shape your AI-generated notes to match exactly how your team works. Choose from two ready-made templates, a Speaker Summary that organizes insights by participant, or an Executive Summary that highlights key takeaways at a glance. And for teams who prefer their own style, you can design custom templates using a simple free-text prompt: just describe the structure you want—even paste in a format you’ve used before—and your AI notes will instantly adapt. You can also save your custom templates for future reuse, giving every meeting the same level of clarity, consistency, and efficiency. Available in public preview on both desktop and mobile in December. Branded reactions [Private preview] Visual identity shapes how your organization shows up. Whether it's a client presentation, an internal milestone, or a seasonal event, the right visuals set the tone and reinforce your brand. With new branded reactions, organizations can now extend their visual identity directly into meetings. IT admins simply upload custom reaction icons reflecting brand elements or event themes, and these instantly become available for meeting participants. Every clap, thumbs-up, or celebration now aligns with your organization's look and feel. A simple way to create more cohesive, on-brand meeting experiences. Branded reactions will be available in private preview in December. Screen & Window Sharing on Mac via Mac OS Native Picker Mac users can now share their screen or specific windows using the standard native picker experience. By opting in through settings, users can enjoy a fully integrated sharing flow that leverages macOS’s default desktop interface—ensuring a familiar, secure, and streamlined experience. Enhancements to Teams Town hall Recent updates to Teams Town hall make it easier than ever for organizers to create professional and polished experiences that engage audiences. Enhanced presenter controls, integrated Q&A and polls, and robust moderation tools ensure smooth delivery, while advanced production capabilities, like custom branding and rich layouts, help elevate the look and feel of a town hall. New experiences for town hall in Microsoft Teams Rooms help foster collaboration whether participants join in-person or remotely. For more information on Teams town hall, click here to learn more. Front-of-room view control for Town Hall in Teams Rooms on Android When a Teams Rooms on Android is invited as a meeting presenter, the front-of-room display defaults to the attendee view. Presenters always have full control from the console, including green room and off-stage management, and can switch the front-of-room display to presenter view without impacting attendees. This feature was released for Teams Rooms on Windows in October 2025. Available in Teams Rooms Pro. Learn more here. Teams Town hall insights – Presenter analytics Presenter analytics for town hall provides organizers with visibility into the health of the presenter’s stream, providing insights covering video quality, audio clarity, and connection stability. Whether it’s a town hall, live training session, or an all-hands meeting, organizers can now proactively ensure presenters deliver their content without interruptions, boosting confidence and elevating the attendee experience. Presenter analytics is generally available today for all town hall organizers with a Teams Premium license. Immersive events in Teams Immersive events in Teams allow organizers to host customizable 3D events where people can connect, interact as avatars, and have natural conversations. This experience is now generally available and has additional new features to enhance user experience. Immersive event attendees and presenters can now join from Meta Quest VR headsets, enabling full 360-degree immersion. Immersive events are also easier to participate in and navigate thanks to text-to-speech and keyboard navigation in event instances. Teams Phone Microsoft 365 Copilot chat in Calls app post-calling experience The post-call Copilot experience for Teams Phone on desktop and in mobile is now powered by Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat. After a call ends, users can open Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat as a side panel in the Teams ‘Calls’ app to generate summaries, surface key insights, and get suggested next steps. By using data from Microsoft Graph and the web—not just the call transcript—Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat delivers responses that are more personalized, relevant, and actionable, helping users quickly move from conversation to follow-up. Teams mobile: Shared call line pickup indicators Delegates can resume a Teams Phone call placed on hold from any shared line directly from Teams on their mobile phone. Clear line labels and “answered/resumed by” indicators show who is handling the call and from which line, so teammates can step in to resume a call on hold without confusion. For example, in a retail store, if a customer call is put on hold at the front desk, a floor associate can pick it up from their mobile device, ensuring the customer doesn’t wait long and the call isn’t abandoned. This helps teams keep calls moving and maintain service continuity across shifts. Set Teams Mobile as Your Default Calling App We’re making it easier for Teams Phone users to stay connected and productive on the go. With this update, you can now set Teams mobile as your iPhone’s default calling app. This means every call you initiate—from Contacts, Call History, or any app—will automatically route through Teams mobile instead of the native dialer. For organizations with regulatory requirements, this capability supports more calls occurring under the enterprise-grade security and compliance policies set up for Teams. Support for third-party compliance recording ISVs for call queues We’re enabling ISV compliance recording solutions to work at the call queue level, making it easier to apply policy-based recording. This will simplify management across large enterprises, support dynamic rep membership, and improve regulatory compliance through seamless integration. Admins can easily apply policy to ensure that all calls on a specific queue are recorded. Learn more. Before we get to this month’s new Teams features, I’m thrilled to share that Microsoft has been recognized as a Leader in the 2025 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Unified Communications as a Service for the 7th year in a row. We are honored to again be positioned highest for ability to execute and furthest for completeness of vision in the evaluation’s axes. We believe this recognition underscores the product innovations we delivered over this past year, such as the launch of agents in meetings and a redesigned chat and channels experience, to make Microsoft Teams the AI-powered platform for work—one that is simple, smart, and secure. In our opinion, the support and trust of our customers and partners helped make this recognition possible. We’re deeply grateful to the hundreds of millions of users who turn to Teams to get their work done and our partners whose expertise and commitment amplify the impact of Teams worldwide. If you’ve been a member of the Microsoft tech community for a while, you might be aware that next month, we’ll highlight many exciting new Teams features at Microsoft Ignite and in our special What’s new in Teams Ignite edition blog. That’s going to be something to look forward to, but this month, we’ve got plenty of new productivity-boosting updates to celebrate too. The power of Copilot continues to grow. We first introduced meeting recaps to help you quickly catch up on what you missed, now we’re taking them further. With audio recap, your written recaps are transformed into dynamic audio experiences you can listen to anytime, anywhere. Teams Rooms just leveled up too, with smarter voice and face recognition and real-time caption translations. New features released this month: Chat and collaboration Meetings, webinars, and town halls Teams Phone Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Certified for Teams Devices Chat and collaboration Summarize files shared in Teams chat with Copilot When a file is shared in a chat, you don’t always have the time to open it, read through, and grasp the key ideas. With file summaries in 1:1 and group chats in Teams, Microsoft 365 Copilot can quickly summarize content from Microsoft Word documents so you can understand the main points without opening the file. This feature is also available on mobile, making it easier to grasp key ideas without reading an entire document on a small screen while on the move. It respects the file's security policies, ensuring that only users with access to the file receive a summary, which will carry the same sensitivity label as the original file. Add emoji updated keyboard shortcut Use colons to quickly insert the emoji you want without slowing down to use the mouse. Type : followed by the name of the emoji you want, then type : again. Once done, the emoji is selected and added to your text. The new shortcut aligns with industry standards and helps make emoji insertion intuitive and consistent. You can now type keywords to find both standard and custom emojis using the improved search. Meetings, webinars, and town halls Audio recap now generally available Staying informed shouldn’t mean being glued to your screen. That’s why we’re introducing audio recap, a new way to catch up on your meetings. With audio recap, your meeting recap is transformed into an audio experience you can listen to on the go. Whether you’re commuting, walking between meetings, or simply prefer listening, it’s a hands-free way to stay connected and informed. You can generate an audio recap for up to eight meetings at a time, and choose the delivery style that best fits how you want to listen: Newscast—one AI speaker delivering a fast, concise summary Executive—two AI speakers offering an efficient summary with minimal commentary. Casual—two AI speakers providing a summary with extra color and commentary. All your audio recaps are easily accessible from the meeting recap page, ready to replay anytime. And with availability on both desktop and mobile, you can catch up wherever work takes you. Support for multiple camera views and IntelliFrame from Teams Rooms on Windows in Teams webinar and structured meetings Multiple camera views and IntelliFrame (Multi-stream and cloud) from Teams Rooms on Windows are now available in Teams webinar and structured meetings with "Manage what attendees see" enabled. Organizers and presenters of these meetings can access intelligent camera views and bring them on the live stage for attendees. Available with Teams Rooms Pro. Event Chat now available in Town halls for GCC, GCCH and DoD [Premium] Teams is bringing richer engagement to your Town halls on more cloud environments. With Event Chat, organizers and attendees in GCC, GCCH, and DoD environments can now interact in real time during Town hall sessions. This feature enables secure, threaded conversations, allowing participants to share insights, ask questions, and stay connected throughout the event. After the session ends, the chat remains accessible for follow-up discussions, ensuring continuity and collaboration beyond the live broadcast. Teams Phone Intelligent recap popout window in Calls app Users can now access Intelligent recap pop-out pages through the Calls app. Intelligent recap uses AI to automatically provide a comprehensive overview of your recorded or transcribed calls, helping users save time catching up and coordinating next steps. Go to the Calls app, look up the transcribed or recorded call in the call history, and select "View recap". This will launch the call’s Intelligent recap as a new pop-out page containing AI-generated discussion summary notes and recommended tasks to help users quickly find the most important information from the call. Teams Phone Mobile is now generally available with AT&T Teams Phone Mobile enables end-users to make and receive calls using a single number across their mobile phone and all their Teams endpoints. AT&T customers can now enjoy seamless mobile and Teams integration with this unified calling experience. Learn more about how IT admins can configure Teams Phone Mobile in Teams admin center and view the expanding set of mobile operators providing Teams Phone Mobile. Phone Devices: Improved Feedback Sharing for Teams Certified Phone Devices Giving feedback on Teams-certified Phone devices just got easier. Previously, users rated their experience with a 1–5 star score, and then had the option to type additional comments—a process that could feel cumbersome on a phone’s touch screen keyboard. Now, after you select your rating, Teams will suggest text prompts tailored to your score, making it simple to share what’s working well or what could be improved. You can still add your own notes for extra detail, but the new prompts help streamline feedback and save time. Phone devices: Enhanced Call Transfer experiences Teams Phone certified devices now have an improved interface that simplifies transfer actions. Users can select “Consult first” to place the original caller on hold and privately speak with the recipient before completing the transfer. The “Transfer” option is only enabled after the consult recipient answers the call to reduce the risk of adding the original caller back into the call prematurely. Direct transfers without a consultation step provide real-time status updates such as “Transferring [User A] to [User B]” while the transfer is in progress and “Successfully completed” at the conclusion. This visibility into the call transfer progress helps the transferrer know when it is safe to disconnect. Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Facilitator agent for scheduled meetings in Teams Rooms on Android You can now take advantage of the Facilitator agent in Teams Rooms on Android for real-time AI-generated notes, follow up items, and keeping everyone updated on time during scheduled meetings. Facilitator appears in the meeting chat, and participants can toggle between notes, chat, and the agent. Available in rooms licensed for Teams Rooms Pro. Learn more here. Cloud IntelliFrame support on Teams Rooms on Android Now Cloud IntelliFrame, the AI-based cloud technology that optimizes views of in-room participants for hybrid meetings, is available for Teams Rooms on Android using group framing. Group framing delivers a more natural hybrid meeting experience by focusing on individuals, allowing remote attendees to see visual expressions and gestures better. It is set as the default in Teams Rooms on Android rooms, while remaining disabled by default in others. Admins can enable or disable IntelliFrame through console settings. Learn more here. Dynamic video tile resizing based on occupancy count from Teams Rooms on Android The room video tile dynamically adjusts size based on the number of people in the room. When one person is in the room, the tile matches the remote participant's size. With two or more people, the room tile expands to be four times larger. Admins can manage this behavior through console settings. Live caption translation in Teams Rooms on Android You can now choose the translation language you prefer from 40 supported spoken languages without affecting what other meeting participants see in Teams Rooms on Android. Previously, live captions were displayed in the spoken language by default, but this change allows individuals to select their own experience. This feature is available on Teams Rooms Pro. Learn more here. Join Town Halls and Webinars as an attendee from Teams Rooms on Android Microsoft Teams Rooms on Android can now join Town Halls and webinars in Teams as attendees. You can attend directly from the invited Teams Room, with the same features that attendees have on the Teams desktop app. Available in Teams Rooms Pro. Learn more. Front-of-room view control for Town Hall and Webinar in Teams Rooms on Windows or Android When a Teams Rooms on Windows (available now) or Android (available in November) is invited as a meeting presenter, the front-of-room display defaults to the attendee view. Presenters always have full control from the console, including green room and off-stage management, and can switch the front-of-room display to presenter view without impacting attendees. Available in Teams Rooms Pro. Learn more here. Enhanced production experience for Town hall in Teams Rooms on Windows The enhanced ‘Manage what attendees see’ feature gives Town hall hosts greater control over what attendees experience. Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters joining from a Teams Room on Windows with a Pro license can manage which presenters can be seen and heard at any time during a large-scale event, creating an organized, polished experience for viewers. Organizers licensed for Teams Premium can adjust layout, background, and name tag changes through the Teams Desktop. Learn more here. Simplified device settings for voice and face recognition on Teams Rooms on Windows or Android It's now easier for admins to enable the benefits of benefits of Copilot and intelligent audio and video features for users in Teams Rooms through a new user interface and admin settings. These new settings, on the device and in the Pro Management portal, simplify configuration and remove the requirement to use PowerShell, offering improved visibility across rooms. Learn more here. People count captured by Cloud IntelliFrame in the Pro Management portal reports Admins get enhanced visibility into room usage from Pro Management portal reports with detailed occupancy data captured by Cloud IntelliFrame during meetings. This insight helps IT more effectively plan and optimize meeting spaces, and is currently available for Teams Rooms on Windows licensed with Teams Rooms Pro. Learn more here. Recommended actions page in the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal This new page in the Pro Management portal provides proactive recommendations based on your organization’s environment and upcoming events that can impact devices, such as support or certification expirations. Admins are prompted to update device and account data enabling rich insights from the portal. Additional guidance based on space and device usage data is coming soon. Hey Microsoft Tech Community, we’re back with the latest updates to Microsoft Teams! This month we’re excited to spotlight many new features, like Threads in Channels which lets you reply directly to specific messages, keeping related conversations grouped together and preserving context without disrupting the main flow; updates to Teams AI Library that enables developers to build more powerful collaborative agents for Teams; and Teams Phone Extensibility for CCaaS and Dynamics 365 Contact Center that helps customers benefit from and extend their existing telephony investment with Teams Phone into the contact center. In addition to these exciting features, earlier this month, we announced the latest wave of Copilot innovation in Teams: we are now giving every channel, meeting, and community an agent that can collaborate with you and your team, acting as a virtual teammate. We share more about these agents below. Teams Rooms users have reason to celebrate as well, because the Facilitator agent is available in Microsoft Teams rooms with a Pro license. And Windows touch boards now support private browsing with Microsoft Edge, enabling secure access to websites and business web apps during and outside of meetings. Using touch boards in Teams Rooms is easier too, with Universal Touch Console support. Users can control Teams Rooms from either the table console or directly on the touch board, including devices like Surface Hub 3. All these updates are designed to help you work smarter, automate the routine, and get more from every minute you spend in Teams. Our goal is to give you the tools to maximize your productivity and improve collaboration and communication across your team. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new! New features released this month: Chat and collaboration Platform Meetings, webinars, and town halls Teams Phone Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Fundamentals and Security Frontline Worker Solutions Certified for Teams Devices Chat and Collaboration Agents in channels [Public Preview] Teams channels provide an organized space for teams to manage workstreams and communicate with stakeholders. Now, each channel can have a Channel Agent that draws on its conversations and meetings to act as a domain expert for the team. These agents adopt the channel’s name and help with common tasks – for example, flagging important deadlines that are buried in conversations, summarizing progress with succinct status reports, assigning tasks and due dates, and answering questions asked in natural language like “What’s the latest on our budget?” You can even invite these agents into meetings when you need expert insights in the discussion. Channel Agent is now in Public Preview* for users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Learn more. Threads in channels Threads in channels let you reply directly to specific messages, keeping related conversations grouped together and preserving context without disrupting the main flow. This makes it easier to stay up to date, while allowing for in-depth discussions. You can follow the threads that matter most to you, and when an important update or decision is made, you can send it back to the main conversation, so everyone stays aligned without requiring them to sift through every reply. The Followed Threads view brings all your followed conversations into one interactive list. You can quickly access all your threads, triage and respond—without jumping between channels. And when you're done with a thread, unfollow it to stop receiving future updates. Learn more here. Enhanced AI thread summary in channels Stay on top of your conversations with enhanced AI-generated thread summaries, available in post/reply and threaded channels. When a conversation becomes lengthy, Copilot helps you catch up without reading every message by offering a “summarize thread” entry point, making it easy to stay informed within your workflow. Based on customer feedback, we structured these summaries to a clear, scannable format, which includes a brief overview highlighting the key takeaways, followed by a bulleted list organized by topic. Thread summaries provide a fast, focused way for users to get caught up on content that matters most to them. AI thread summary is available with Microsoft 365 Copilot license. New Workflows app experience in Teams [Public Preview] The newly redesigned Workflows experience in Teams makes automation easier and more accessible than ever. With a simple interface, it helps you automate day-to-day tasks, like getting updates from your teammates, automatically routing documents for approvals as they get modified, or adding tasks to Planner from messages without ever having to leave Teams. Additionally, you can now use new AI-powered workflow templates to automate tasks with Copilot or your channel’s agent — no coding required. This experience is currently in Public Preview. To access the AI workflows, users need a M365 Copilot license. Teams platform Sharing Apps and Agents in Teams To streamline interactions with apps and agents in Teams, we have introduced context aware buttons to link previews. These buttons will show the main action you can take with the link, depending on the app and where the link is shared. For example, if you share a SharePoint agent in a Teams Channel, the button CTA will say “Add to this Channel”, making the next step for the end user intuitive and efficient. Teams AI Library The updated Teams AI Library enables developers to build more powerful collaborative agents for Teams. With the enhanced version in GA for JavaScript and C#, and in Public Preview for Python, the library simplifies the creation of custom agents and provides access to the latest capabilities including Agent-to-Agent collaboration (A2A), Model Context Protocol (MCP), agentic memory, and more. It is generally available in C# and JavaScript, and in Public Preview for Python. GitHub app for Teams [Public Preview] Developers can @mention GitHub in a Teams channel to generate code directly from team discussions, turning conversations into working code without leaving Teams. The GitHub app for Teams understands your conversation in the Teams channel and helps turn that conversation into code, tests, documentation and pull requests. Github app for Teams is currently in Public Preview. Learn more in our recent GitHub blog post. Meetings, webinars, and town halls Facilitator agent Facilitator, the AI agent for every meeting, is now generally available. It joins your Microsoft Teams meetings to keep conversations focused, organized, and action‑oriented—adding productivity, not work. With a natural, conversational interface, participants can collaborate with each other and the agent in real time while Facilitator manages the end‑to‑end flow: it sets an agenda from the invite or infers goals from the discussion; keeps conversations on track with a visible timeline, smart time allocations, and gentle reminders; captures editable, real‑time notes; answers questions with meeting context and relevant web information; and records, assigns, and updates tasks, syncing with Planner for seamless follow‑through. When a new document is needed, it offers one‑click creation and generates a first draft in Word or Loop. Facilitator is also available in Teams Rooms and on mobile—extending chat, notes, and timers, and even capturing ad‑hoc hallway syncs—so every decision and action is captured. Enhanced Meeting Protection – Prevent Screen Capture [Premium] To address the issue of unauthorized screen captures during meetings, the Prevent Screen Capture feature ensures that if a user attempts to take a screen capture, the meeting window will turn black, thereby protecting sensitive information. This feature will be available on Teams desktop applications (both Windows and Mac) and Teams mobile applications (both iOS and Android). For users joining from unsupported platforms, they will be placed in audio-only mode to maintain the integrity of the meeting's content. This feature is available with a Teams Premium license. Countdown timer for Teams Meetings Manage time and streamline meeting discussions with the new countdown timer for Teams meetings, a tool designed to keep meetings efficient and on schedule. Any user can easily add a timer of any duration to the meeting (up to 100 minutes), which will appear in the meeting window for all participants with controls to start, stop, pause, and add more time. Colors automatically change as the timer gets closer to zero to help keep the speaker on track. Decorate your background in GCC (Premium) Decorate your background is now available to customers in GCC and GCC High environments. It is a generative background effect in Teams that makes meetings more fun and personal by using AI to spruce up your meeting background. With it, you can blend your physical and digital spaces and revamp what can be seen of your physical meeting space for each call. This technology allows for effortless room clean-up and adds virtual plants or festive decorations for special events. Decorate your background requires a Teams Premium license. Real-Time Mic Volume Indicator for Teams Meetings Introducing the Mic Volume Indicator for Teams meetings, a feature designed to provide real-time visual feedback on your audio levels. Positioned on the user bar, this indicator ensures your voice is captured correctly, eliminating the need to ask, “Can you hear me?” By offering continuous visual confirmation, it enhances user confidence and reduces communication breakdowns. It streamlines meeting efficiency by minimizing interruptions and ensuring communication that works. Organizer controls now available in meeting toolbar Take control of your meetings—right from the toolbar! Managing your Teams meetings is now faster and easier. Organizers and co-organizers will see a new ‘Controls’ button directly on the meeting toolbar—giving instant access to key settings for secure and seamless meetings. If an organizer has Teams Premium license, they'll unlock even more functionality with the Advanced Protection section inside the Controls flyout. Need deeper customization? Just click ‘View more’ at the bottom of the flyout to open the full Meeting Options panel. Enhanced privacy and stability for live captions To improve privacy, when transcription is off, captions will now show only the past five minutes of dialogue instead of the full meeting. If transcription is on, captions display the entire conversation, just like with live transcription. We’ve also fixed an issue where changing the caption position could cause data loss—now, moving captions will not affect the text shown. These updates also apply to Real-time Text (RTT), ensuring a consistent and reliable experience. Chat for organizers and presenters in webinars Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters can now take advantage of a dedicated private chat in webinars, separate from attendee conversations. This feature is available before, during, and after the event, allowing presenters and event staff to coordinate easily and ensure smooth webinar delivery. Using a new first-party Migration tool in Microsoft Admin Center (MAC), admins can connect the third-party workspace, plan the migration, and execute the content transfer to Teams with ease. Unified building and endpoint metadata for reporting Teams Administrators can now use a single, unified process to upload and maintain the building and endpoint metadata that enriches calling and meeting reports. This new process replaces Reporting Labels and ensures that the building and endpoint information you upload is used in both Tenant Admin Center and Call Quality Dashboard. The data is stored in the Call Quality Dashboard (CQD) system and is used for call reporting, with no connection to Places or e911. Silent test call Silent test call provides the ability for IT admins to proactively run a synthetic simulation of a Teams call to the subnet, and to examine network readiness before any issue occurs. It provides tenant admins comprehensive visibility of their Teams environment, including infrastructure aspects such as network and devices, even during periods of no activity or minimal user interactions. September 2025 UPDATE: The Interpreter licensing terms previously announced in this blog have been revised. Now, 20 hours of interpretation is included (increased from 2 hours) per user per month with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Access beyond the hours included is subject to available capacity. Happy July, everyone! It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the second half of 2025. It was a busy first half for Teams, and there are no signs of slowing down. This month, I’m excited to share that engaging with Copilot is even easier. Copilot is now accessible right at the top of the Teams chat list, even without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Now in Teams, everyone can explore the possibilities of Copilot Chat. We’re also launching the amazing Interpreter. It can break down language barriers with real-time voice interpretation in nine different languages, and can even simulate the sound of your voice! That will certainly bring people closer together by making communication clearer and easier. That’s not all, there are a lot more incredible additions to Teams to check out this month, so read on! New features released this month: Platform Chat and Collaboration Meetings, Webinars, and Town halls Teams Phones Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Fundamentals and Security Frontline Worker Solutions Certified for Teams Devices Platform Search with apps and agents personalized suggestions The ability to search personalized suggestions in Teams has been enhanced to include apps and agents in addition to your teammates. When searching in Teams you will now also get apps and agent suggestions which dynamically update as you type. For example, if you are typing "Fac" in the Teams search bar, "Facilitator agent" will pop up in addition to other results that match the query. Share agents and apps from app bar via right click You can now share apps directly from the app icon. Simply select the “Share” option when hovering on the app or agent icon while you're in 1:1 chat mode with the app or agent. Additionally, after selecting the “+Apps” icon from the three-dot menu in the top right of any chat, you can right-click to share the app or agent. This update saves Teams users time from having to manually select an app in the app store and manually share the link with their teammates. Chat and Collaboration Microsoft 365 Copilot accessible from the Teams Chat list To help you easily engage with Microsoft 365 Copilot, we're making Copilot Chat with web grounding accessible directly from Teams Chat to users with or without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Copilot Chat will be pinned at the top of the Chat list, just above the “Discover” option. This update simplifies navigation and enhances discoverability, helping you explore Microsoft 365 Copilot in the context of everyday conversations. Whether you're a seasoned user or just getting started, Microsoft 365 Copilot is now just one click away. Trigger workflows using emoji reactions We are introducing the ability to trigger workflows using emoji reactions. In a busy workday, questions, tasks, and requests can easily be overlooked. By automating workflows with emoji reactions, you can streamline processes, eliminate mundane tasks, and speed up response times with automated actions. For example, you can use a template to have emoji reactions trigger forwarding a request. Automate workflows for instant DevOps actions, incident response, team collaboration and more from the Microsoft Teams Workflows app available in the app store. New Microsoft Teams Chat and channels experience in Education The new, streamlined chat and channels experience is now available for Education. The updated experience makes it easier to stay on top of what matters most and organize your digital workspace. Catch up on chat, channels and teams in one place, create custom sections to organize conversations by topics, use filters to triage messages and more. This is an optional opt-in experience. Emoji search Emojis help users express themselves, connect with colleagues, and strengthen team’s culture. Now, finding the right emoji at the right time has got easier. Type a keyword into the emoji search bar in the emoji menu to see related standard and custom emoji from the full collection. Customize notification size You can now change the size of your Teams notifications. In settings, select either the compact or comfy option to take up less space on your screen and suit your work preferences. Meetings, Webinars, and Town halls Interpreter now generally available Interpreter, a new way to make multilingual communication effortless, is now generally available. Interpreter makes it possible for everyone to speak and listen in their preferred language, thanks to advanced real-time speech-to-speech interpretation. Designed for more seamless collaboration across global teams, Interpreter eliminates language barriers in meetings. Whether you’re presenting in English while your colleagues listen in Japanese or collaborating in Spanish while responding in French, each participant can engage naturally in the language of their choice. Interpreter is available across desktop (Windows, Mac), web (Chrome, Safari, Edge), and mobile (iOS, Android). Interpreter currently supports nine languages including Chinese (Mandarin), English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. Two hours of interpretation are included per user per month with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Usage exceeding two hours per user per month may incur additional charges. Usage limits and additional terms may apply. External Audio and Camera Device Selection on iPads Two powerful enhancements are now available in Microsoft Teams on iPad: muting external audio devices and external camera switching in pre-join or during the meeting. IPad users will have the ability to select and deselect audio sources and camera devices in Teams meetings[KP1] [RF2] . These updates give users more control over their meeting setup—whether they’re docked at a desk or on the go. Learn more: Introducing External Camera Support for iPads in Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Community Hub Sign Language Mode We are introducing an updated experience for sign language users in Teams through a new feature called Sign Language Mode. Intelligent recap is an AI-powered feature from Microsoft Teams that will help users catch up on missed meetings or events with AI-generated notes, follow-up tasks, name mentions, topics, chapters, speaker identification, and more. Teams Premium users can find it on the new 'Recap' tab in the Teams calendar event detail and in the town hall chat. Introducing new IT administrator policies to control town hall event access A new policy setting,`TownhallEventAccessType’ gives tenant administrators the ability to control who can attend the town hall created by users from their organization. Teams Phone Use Copilot during Teams calls without turning on transcription or recording Now users can leverage Copilot's capabilities during Teams calls without retaining transcripts or an audio recording. Once an admin has enabled this option, users can initiate Copilot without transcription or recording by clicking the Copilot button in the header menu. Users can have Copilot handle important administrative tasks of a call, such as capturing key points, task owners, and next steps during sensitive conversations where a persistent record is not desired. Requires Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams Phone licenses. Suggested prompts for Copilot on Teams Phone devices Copilot is now supported on Teams Phone devices, bringing real-time intelligence to calls with just a tap. Suggested contacts for call transfers from Teams Phone devices Call transfers from Teams Phone devices are now smarter, faster, and more accurate. During active calls, users can choose from suggested call transfer contacts intelligently surfaced based on context, communication patterns, and placement in contact groups. This new capability reduces the number of steps needed to complete a call transfer. Requires users to be licensed for Teams Phone. Set custom ringtones for assigned line keys on Teams Phone devices Personalize your experience on Teams Phone devices by setting unique ringtones and choosing how each assigned line key alerts you: ring only, ring with flash, or flash only. This feature is supported across touch, non-touch, and sidecar devices, giving you full control over how you stay notified. Requires users to be licensed for Teams Phone. Configure line keys for Teams Phone devices from Teams admin center We previously released line keys to allow users to set up custom one-touch dialing, shared line, collaborative call delegation, and other capabilities on Teams Phone devices, making it easier to access frequently dialed contacts and improve productivity. Now, within the Teams admin center, admins can configure line keys for personal and common area phones. Requires users to be licensed for Teams Phone. Real-time text supported on Teams Phone devices Real-time text (RTT) messages can now be viewed on Teams Phone devices. If users wish to send RTT messages, they will need to join the meeting with their laptop/mobile as a companion device. Requires users to be licensed for Teams Phone. Remote contact management for common area phones Admins can now remotely manage frequently used contacts, which are then made available in the Company contacts group on Teams Phone devices set up as common area phones. Whether adding or removing contacts, the process is streamlined and intuitive, helping ensure that shared devices stay up to date with the right contact information. Requires a Teams Phone license. Set up call priorities for call queues Call priorities for call queues in Teams allow you to set the order in which calls are routed to agents within a call queue. This functionality is useful for ensuring that high-priority calls are answered first, while lower-priority calls are held in a queue until an agent becomes available. Auto attendant and call queue capabilities require a Teams Phone license. Telephone number tags available via PowerShell Teams admins can now assign custom tags to telephone numbers using new PowerShell cmdlets. These tags make it easier to filter, automate, and manage large sets of numbers; especially useful for organizations with complex telephony needs. Admins can create up to 1,000 tags per tenant, and each phone number can hold up to 50 tags. Use the following cmdlets to manage telephone number tags: Set-CsPhoneNumberTag Update-CsPhoneNumberTag Remove-CsPhoneNumberTag Get-CsPhoneNumberTag Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Find certified for Teams devices for all types of spaces and uses at aka.ms/teamsdevices. Available with a Teams Rooms Pro license. Learn more here. Fundamentals and Security Rules-Based Enablement of M365 Third-Party Apps in Teams Admin Center This feature enables M365 administrators to establish specific criteria for permitting third-party SaaS applications within their tenant. Administrators can choose from a list of predefined criteria deemed safe, ensuring that only trusted and compliant applications are auto-allowed under this rule. Monitor DNS resolution failures and impact of proxy on Teams meetings with Best practice configurations dashboard in Teams admin center Teams administrators can use the best practice configuration dashboard in Teams admin center to monitor DNS and proxy issues that can cause call drops, login failures, or poor real-time media quality. Default enable transcription policy for new tenants The default policy for Transcription has been updated from “off” to “on” for any new tenant. This change doesn’t mean that every meeting will automatically have transcription enabled, but it will allow users to turn on transcription if needed. This adjustment aligns the default Transcription policy with that of Recording, supporting broader adoption of Transcription and all AI features. Support Audit logs for Give and Take Control and Screen share IT administrators can now access detailed logs for both the "Give and Take Control" and "Screenshare" features. These logs will provide comprehensive information, including the names and timestamps of the individuals involved in each action. Specifically, the logs will indicate who initiated or received control, as well as who started the screenshare session, along with the corresponding timestamps and names. This enhancement ensures greater transparency and accountability for all control and screenshare activities. Accessible in Teams Admin Center. Remote log collection in Teams admin center Teams Administrators now have the capability to remotely collect client diagnostics logs from users' devices, thereby eliminating the need for any user action or workflow disruption. This advanced tool is designed to greatly assist IT administrators by automating the previously lengthy and manual process of diagnostic log collection for troubleshooting purposes. Welcome to the August edition of What’s New in Microsoft Teams! As Teams continues to evolve, this month’s updates bring a fresh wave of innovation designed to help you work smarter, collaborate more effectively, and stay connected across your organization. Whether you’re catching up on conversations or preparing for your next big meeting, Teams is here to support your productivity with intelligent, user-friendly features. Among the standout releases this month is a feature that expands how you can express yourself, another feature that helps to streamline your workflow, and multiple enhancements to desk booking. First, “Multiple emoji reactions” lets you combine several emojis to share more complex reactions in a quick and concise way. Second, IT administrators can now upload custom dictionaries for Copilot in Teams, ensuring that meeting transcripts and Intelligent Recap reflect your organization’s unique terminology. Finally, your desk booking experience just got easier, with features that let you book a desk from a map and near a colleague. Together, these enhancements make Teams smarter and more personalized, helping you unlock deeper insights and collaborate with greater clarity than ever before. Take a look at the details of those features, and all the others we’re launching this month! New features released this month: Chat and collaboration Meetings, webinars, and town halls Teams Phone Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Fundamentals and Security Frontline Worker Solutions Certified for Teams Devices Chat and Collaboration Filter for messages with files in contextual search Finding shared content in Teams just got easier with the latest enhancements to the Find in Chat/Channel experience. Users can now quickly locate documents and media shared across conversations without scrolling through long threads. The updated experience enables filtering messages to show only those with attachments, and search results now include file chiclets—making it easy to identify messages containing files at a glance. These updates improve productivity and reduce friction when searching for shared content in conversations. Search with SQL-like commands When searching in Teams, you can now efficiently narrow down your search results by using SQL-like commands in the search bar. This allows you to quickly filter messages, files, or conversations with precise queries such as from:username or in:channel. This feature provides users with a familiar and structured method to find information swiftly and accurately. Keyboard Shortcuts Customize your keyboard shortcuts in Teams to work the way that’s most intuitive to you. Whether you want to set your own shortcuts based on your workflow preferences or you're used to shortcuts from other tools like Slack or Zoom, Teams lets you set up commands that match your habits, helping you work efficiently. Create your own custom commands or choose from preset layouts inspired by other apps. Just head to the top bar menu (•••), select Keyboard shortcuts, and use the dropdown to pick a layout or edit any shortcut to make it your own. Saved message view Quickly get back to important information without scrolling through long conversations. You can save messages in chats and channels and find them later in the saved messages view in your chat list. From the saved view, click on a saved message to open the full conversation in the right pane, where you can review or reply directly. Multiple Emoji Reactions You can react to messages and posts with multiple reactions per message, enhancing your ability to express a wide range of emotions effectively. Now you can respond to your manager’s leadership update with a "check” and “thank you” emoji, showing you understand the update and are thankful for their transparency. You can use combinations of emojis like those for a richer and more nuanced response, quickly conveying your feelings and thoughts, like agreement, urgency or sentiment, without extra replies—keeping discussions focused and efficient, while expressing yourself comprehensively. Meetings, Webinars, and Town halls Personal meeting templates [Premium] Efficient collaboration begins with a seamless meeting setup. With personal meeting templates, users can create and customize templates tailored to their frequent meeting types—such as one-on-one connections, client engagements, or support sessions. Simply select your template, and all the pre-saved options are automatically applied, allowing meetings to start promptly and with confidence. Personal meeting templates save users time and effort in resetting meeting settings and ensure consistency across your organization. This capability is available with a Teams Premium license. Custom dictionaries now available to Copilot in Teams IT administrators can now upload custom dictionaries for their tenant in English, Spanish, Japanese, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Chinese (Simplified). This capability is accessible through the Copilot Settings page in the Microsoft 365 admin center. By integrating organization-specific terminology, custom dictionaries help the AI model produce more accurate and meaningful meeting transcripts. This enhancement benefits both Copilot and Intelligent Recap, ensuring your unique business language is recognized and reflected. Organizations can reduce misunderstandings and improve productivity by tailoring the AI to their needs. Take advantage of this new feature to unlock deeper insights from your meetings. Meeting organizers can send messages to attendees in the lobby with lobby chat Now meeting organizers can send one-way messages to attendees in the lobby via the lobby chat. The lobby chat is intended to optimize the lobby experience for all participants, ensuring that organizers are better equipped to run external meetings, have more control over meetings with external participants, and external attendees are well informed about the meeting upon meeting start. Edit your display name in Teams meetings Participants can now edit their display name during a Teams meeting — whether to reflect a preferred name, indicate a role (e.g., “Moderator” or “Interpreter”), or support inclusive self-representation. The change of display name is temporary and only visible during the meeting. The change is not permanent in any artifact like recording. Customize the screen in Teams Town halls through ‘Manage what attendees see’ [Premium] Organizers will be able to elevate their Teams Town hall presentations by customizing their screen with select layouts, backgrounds, and name tags using “Manage what attendees see” feature. This will result in a polished, high-quality, and engaging event experience. This feature is available with a Teams Premium License. Immersive events, experience customization tools and presenter tools [Premium] Microsoft Teams now supports immersive events, a new way to host large-scale, 3D virtual gatherings that hosts can schedule and attendees can join directly in Teams. Organizers with a Teams Premium license can design engaging spaces, customize event visuals, and host up to 300 attendees in a spatial audio environment that supports simultaneous conversations and cross-room interactions. This feature brings new and expanded immersive capabilities into the familiar Teams experience, making it easier to inspire ideas, foster inclusion, and build stronger connections. With the new Experience Customization Tools, event creators can personalize immersive spaces using intuitive design options, no coding required. Add logos, theme colors, images, and videos to a shared 3D canvas, resize and reposition objects, and save layouts as reusable templates for future events. In addition, improvements to Presenter tools make it simpler to host immersive, interactive 3D events with avatars in customizable 3D spaces. Improvements include: ‘Easy presentation start’, which consolidates required actions into a simple start flow Hosts can make sure attendees and speakers are in the right place by teleporting them to seating or presentation spaces in the 3D space Find-a-person gives the ability to search across rooms to find someone The simplified Control Panel provides a cleaner and simpler production experience with a pre-filtered content view Teams Phone Microsoft Shifts integration with Teams call queues Teams admins can leverage Teams scheduling groups created within the Shifts app in Teams to dynamically manage call routing to agents in call queues. Once scheduling groups and associated work shifts are established in the Shifts app, call queues can be configured to reference shift data. Call queues will then pull in the associated shift schedules, ensuring that calls to the queue are routed only to agents who are actively on shift. This integration enables: Streamlined workforce management by aligning call routing with shift schedules Greater flexibility in configuring call queues based on timing and team Learn more about Shifts in Teams, how to manage the Shifts app, and configuring a Shift for your call queue. Email notifications for phone number assignments Admins can send a Microsoft branded email notification to end-users with their newly assigned Teams Phone number while assigning/unassigning the number through Teams PowerShell cmdlet. This feature helps provide a welcoming onboarding experience for new Teams Phone users. User notifications include: The assigned or unassigned telephone number Activation timeline (up to 48 hours) Instructions for accessing the dial pad in Teams Links to learn more about Teams Phone capabilities Learn how to assign a phone number to a user through the Teams Admin Center. Device sign-in support for non-touch models Organizations now have increased sign-in flexibility for non-touch devices. Users are able to log in directly, without relying on device code flow (DCF) authentication. For example, a T9 keyboard can be used to enter credentials, providing an experience better tailored to the device. Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Find certified for Teams devices for all types of spaces and uses at aka.ms/teamsdevices. Book desks using maps [Premium] You can now book a desk using an interactive, map-based experience. The new maps-first interface shows office layouts and is responsive on mobile devices and smaller screens. Whether reserving an individual desk or a pooled desk, the experience is optimized within Outlook and Teams calendars and across the Places app. This feature is available with a Teams Premium license. Book desks near colleagues [Premium] You can now book a desk based on where your colleagues are working. When selecting a desk, you’ll be able to see who is occupying nearby desks or find where a specific colleague plans to sit on a given day, then book a desk close to them. You always retain control over whether to share your own desk location with others. This capability is available with a Teams Premium license. Book desks for partial days and multiple days [Premium] Desk reservations are now more flexible in duration: you can book a desk for a partial day (just a few hours) or for multiple days in one go, rather than requiring a separate full-day booking for each day. This change accommodates real in-office workflows – for example, if you only need a desk for a morning, or conversely want to keep the same desk all week, you can do so easily. This feature is available with a Teams Premium license. Book desks on behalf of others [Premium] Delegates can now book desks for their principals. If you manage another person’s schedule, you can reserve a workspace on their behalf through the familiar calendar delegation workflow. This desk booking process mirrors existing Outlook calendar management, so it fits seamlessly into delegates’ routines. This feature is available with a Teams Premium license. Configure auto-release for no-show desk reservations Admins can now set desks to auto-release after a specific time frame if a user does not check in for their reservation. This frees up space for others, and helps maximize workspace utilization by ensuring no-show reservations don’t keep a desk locked all day. Learn more here. Enhanced walk-up desk booking experience for users Teams walk-up desk booking now features enhanced interface updates, showing reservation confirmation or notifications if desks are booked. The improved experience guides users on reservations, calendar syncing, and management. Learn more here. Configure new desk modes: reservable, drop-in, assigned, unavailable Administrators can configure desks in multiple modes to support different booking policies. Each desk can now be set to one of several modes, and this setting can be changed at any time to adapt to organizational needs. The available desk modes include: Reservable desks are configured to be booked in advance or on-the-spot. Drop-in desks are available for on-the-spot use and cannot be reserved in advance. You can use the capability from Microsoft Teams to link the peripheral devices present on these desks to the individual desk object in the directory. Assigned desks are permanently linked to a specific user and cannot be booked by others. Every assigned desk must always have a designated user. Unavailable desks are not available for reservation due to maintenance or for any other reason. These modes give organizations flexibility in managing how each workspace is utilized – from hoteling desks that anyone can book, to dedicated desks, to informal touchdown spots. Learn more here. New Places built-in admin role support Places now supports built-in Microsoft 365 admin roles for delegation. IT admins can assign responsibility for Places management to other administrators using standard roles, allowing day-to-day management tasks to be handled without elevated permissions. In practice, this means administrators can delegate tasks (like updating office space details or approving changes) to team members with appropriate built-in roles, streamlining operations. Learn more here. New Places admin dashboard Administrators can now manage Places directory data through a dedicated, user-friendly dashboard that provides a central interface to easily view and edit workspace directory information (such as office locations, desks, and rooms) and set and manage booking policies. This simplifies day-to-day management of workplace data by putting all relevant controls in one place. Fundamentals and Security Microsoft Teams: Support Audit logs for Give and Take Control and Screen share IT administrators will now have the ability to access detailed logs for both the "Give and Take Control" and "Screenshare" features. Learn more here. Frontline Worker Solutions New SharePoint Agent Integration in Teams Chats and Channels Starting in August, SharePoint agents can now be added to Teams channels. SharePoint agents allow users to create agents grounded on SharePoint sites, files and folders. For example, you can create an agent that pulls from a SharePoint library with compliance information. Within a channel, users can then query against those documents. Additionally, users can now add multiple SharePoint agents to a single group chat – an upgrade from the previous limitation of one agent per chat. Each agent brings its own specialized knowledge, perfect for reviewing documents, planning content, or collaborating across specs. Adding an agent is easy: just copy the link from SharePoint – just like you would to share any other file – and drop it into a post or reply. Then, interact with them by @mentioning the agent by name. These agents enhance conversations by offering tailored insights and support right when it's needed. Deploy Frontline Teams in Teams Admin Center We’re excited to announce new enhancements in the Teams Admin Center that make it easier than ever to set up and deploy your frontline teams with flexible membership. Hi everyone, and welcome to the June edition of What’s new in Teams. You might have noticed a different name and picture under the title. I’m Kerry Perez Heffernan, a Director in the Teams team. Pete Daderko, who you know as the previous author of this blog, asked me to take over the honor of sharing the monthly updates with you all. I’m excited to get started! As we approach the end of the first half of 2025, we have a great opportunity to look both back at what we’ve accomplished and ahead to what we’re working toward. Our focus with Teams has been to continue making it more secure, simpler to use, and smarter. We’ve made lots of progress towards these goals with the addition of new Copilot capabilities, and the introduction of AI Agents and assistants that make AI a core part of Teams. And there’s a lot more to come! This month, one of the features that I’m most excited to share with you is “AI assistant in the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal.” It enables admins of Teams Rooms Pro rooms to save time by asking the AI assistant “how-to” questions related to Teams meeting spaces and management solutions and get data and insights about their rooms. Read on for all the powerful solutions becoming available this month! New features released this month: Chat and Collaboration Meetings, webinars, and townhalls Teams Phone Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Fundamentals and Security Frontline Worker Solutions Certified for Teams devices Chat and Collaboration Enhanced spell check with multi-language support Enhanced spell check will help ensure that your messages are clear and professional. You can add up to three languages to your language list, enabling spellchecking in each of the languages. The different options that can be selected are “Organizer, co-organizers, and presenters”, “Organizer and co-organizer only” and “Specific people”. This feature is for town hall only. Coming soon for Teams Rooms on Windows. Users can join Teams Town hall and Webinar using PSTN codes Organizers, presenters, and attendees can now join town halls and webinars seamlessly using a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) code provided in the invite. Once connected, they will automatically be directed to either the green room or the live session, ensuring a smooth and efficient experience. Teams Town hall dial in-details in shared event dialog Organizers and presenters can join a town hall using dial-in details, including the meeting ID and passcode, provided via the town hall share event dialog for organizers. They can connect via traditional phone lines (PSTN) or Microsoft Teams Rooms, ensuring participation even without internet or computer access. Once connected, presenters initially join as an attendee and then are promoted to presenter status, allowing them to access either the green room or the live session. Add a presenter from the participant roster in a Teams Town hall or Webinar Organizers can quickly add a presenter by calling them directly from the participant roster. Once the user accepts the call, they instantly join as a presenter, automatically joining the green room (if enabled) and the organizer and presenter private group chat. With the presenter designation, they will be able to share content, control the presentation, or interact with other meeting participants. Teams Town hall usage reports in the Teams admin center (TAC) Analyzing and understanding your event's performance to make informed decisions for future improvements is now possible with town hall usage reports in the Teams Admin Center (TAC). Organizers will gain valuable insights into attendee engagement, participation metrics, and overall event effectiveness. By leveraging these reports, organizers can identify areas for enhancement, helping to ensure that each subsequent event is even more impactful and engaging. Teams Town hall organizers and presenters can join as attendees Organizers, co-organizers, and presenters are now able to experience the event from the perspective of an attendee, helping them spot issues, make real-time adjustments, and improve the overall experience on the spot. In this view, certain town hall features, such as Q&A, will be disabled just for that organizer while the broader attendee experience will remain unaffected. This capability will lead to more polished, engaging, and memorable events that truly resonate with participants. Notification management for Teams Town hall and Webinar Organizers and co-organizers can control when to send notifications to presenters and attendees, reducing email clutter by minimizing unnecessary notifications. Once the event is published, any changes to the title, date and time, description, or attendee list will automatically trigger notifications, but only for the people affected. All current email notifications will remain unchanged for co-organizers, presenters, and attendees. Teams Phone Copilot summary for transferred calls Copilot intelligence is now integrated into call flows. This feature will automatically generate a summary of a call, allow for edits, then enable users to send a call summary to a transfer target before transferring the call. That means smoother handoffs, no lost context and no need for a pre-transfer consult. Phone Devices: Copilot summary for transferred calls Copilot is making call transfers more seamless on Teams Phone devices with support for AI-generated summary notes. On a Teams Phone device, simply select the option to generate call transfer notes before completing the transfer to ensure the recipient is well-informed. This speeds up call transfers across a wider variety of workplace environments. Teams button support on multiple connected peripheral devices You can now use the Teams button across peripheral devices without having to manually select a specific device in the Teams devices settings. This ensures a more seamless experience navigating across multiple certified for Microsoft Teams personal peripheral USB devices (with a wire or a dongle) connected to the same host device (such as your laptop). For example, you can use the Teams button on headset A to bring up the meeting pre-join screen, then use the Teams button on headset B to join the meeting, and then use the Teams button on your connected speakerphone to raise hand in the meeting, etc. Ability to Set New Ringtones in Teams Mobile Teams now supports multiple ringtones on mobile. Choose from a selection of tones – no longer limited to the default - allowing for a more personalized call experience and easier differentiation between call types. For example, factory workers in a loud production environment can apply a louder ringtone. Or, information workers can set a distinct ringtone for when colleagues forward calls, to more easily recognize potential customer escalations. Opening Calls in a small window in Teams For a less disruptive experience, Teams Phone lets users answer and open calls in a compact, resizable call monitor instead of the full call stage. It’s perfect for multitasking and keeping the conversation visible while freeing up screen space to stay productive. Call waiting beep Call waiting beep provides a subtle, non-intrusive notification when users receive another call while already on a call. This feature is available on both desktop and mobile. Real-Time Text (RTT) for more inclusive calling Real-Time Text enables text to be transmitted instantly as it is typed during a live call or meeting. This contrasts with the standard approach of having to wait for the full message to be typed in and sent before being able to view it. This improves accessibility for users with hearing and speech impairments and is supported in both Teams calls and meetings. If you’ve never participated in Microsoft Build (and even if you have), now is a great time to check it out! Digital access is free, and there are lots of different ways to make the most of it. You can immerse yourself in interactive coding labs and demos, learn from senior Microsoft leaders and industry experts, build skills, connect with colleagues, and stay up to date with all of the new and upcoming innovations Microsoft has to offer. And if you’re reading this after it’s all over, don’t worry, you can visit the archives to view selected sessions from this year and past years as well. Speaking of “new and upcoming innovations”, the Teams team is excited to be highlighting some impressive and useful features at Build. We’re launching new ways to discover and add agents in Teams on mobile devices, updating the Teams AI Library to enable developers to build more powerful collaborative agents for Teams, and introducing Agent2Agent Protocol (A2A), that enables developers to build agents for Teams that can exchange messages, data, and credentials without relying upon centralized intermediaries. So, read on to see what’s coming! New features released in May*: Platform Chat and collaboration Meetings, webinars, and town halls Teams Phone Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Certified for Teams Devices Fundamentals and Security Frontline Worker Solutions *All features are generally available unless otherwise noted. Platform Microsoft 365 Copilot interaction export APIs The new Interaction Export APIs enable customers and ISVs to export Copilot interaction data for processing in their security and compliance (S+C) applications. These new APIs capture the user prompts and Copilot responses in the Copilot private interactions and provide insights into the resources Copilot has accessed to generate the response. These new APIs will be available in Public Cloud for General Availability. Updated Teams AI library: Available in public preview The updated Teams AI Library enables developers to build more powerful collaborative agents for Teams. With the enhanced version in preview for JavaScript and C#, the library simplifies the creation of custom agents and provides access to the latest capabilities including Agent-to-Agent collaboration (A2A), Model Context Protocol (MCP), agentic memory, and more. Learn more about the updated Teams AI Library here. Model Context Protocol (MCP): Available in public preview The Teams AI Library now supports Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP can drastically enhance the abilities of the agents you build, enabling agents to leverage external AI services and vastly expand their skill/action set. This vendor-neutral protocol lets AI agents share memory and tools over a common interface, enabling complex multi-agent workflows. You can now create an agent that uses MCP servers. Connect your agent with our MCP server guide. Agent2Agent Protocol (A2A): Available in public preview Developers can build agents for Teams using the A2A protocol that enables secure, peer-to-peer communication between agents. These agents can exchange messages, data, and credentials without relying upon centralized intermediaries, so they can tackle complex enterprise tasks more effectively and efficiently. For example, planning a multi-city business trip might involve one AI agent handling flights, another handling hotels, and another checking your calendar – A2A lets them coordinate that plan together seamlessly. Using advanced agent orchestration capabilities, like A2A, only takes one line of code—drastically reducing the time it takes to create advanced agents. Agentic memory on Teams: Available in public preview Agentic memory allows AI agents in Teams to remember past user interactions, enabling more personalized and context-aware experiences. Instead of treating each interaction as isolated, agents can recall previous conversations, preferences, or user roles to tailor responses accordingly. This memory helps: Maintain conversation state across sessions Reduce repetitive prompts Improve decision-making accuracy Build user trust through familiarity and continuity It’s especially useful in long-running or multi-turn interactions, where agents need to retain context over time. Learn more here. Automated agent validation: Available in public preview This feature enables developers to run automated compliance checks on their agents directly within the Teams Developer Portal. It ensures that agents meet Microsoft Store policies, are optimized for high performance and align with responsible AI practices. This streamlines the publishing process and reduces the risk of agents being rejected or underperforming once deployed. Adoption & engagement insights: Available in public preview The Developer Portal provides analytics to help developers track adoption and engagement with real-time insights, providing key metrics to refine and optimize agent performance. Developers can track adoption rates, user engagement patterns, and key performance metrics. These insights help teams refine their agents, prioritize improvements, and demonstrate ROI. It’s particularly valuable for product marketing and engineering teams looking to optimize agent performance and user satisfaction. Interactive Agents for Teams Meetings and Calls: Available in public preview Now you can seamlessly invite AI-powered agents—like those built in Copilot Studio or available from the Teams Store—into your Teams meetings and calls. These agents can: Join group or private conversations during meetings. Interactions with agents in Teams are private by default. When used privately, agents don’t appear in the meeting roster and therefore, your conversations with the agents are truly private. Offer real-time assistance without needing a prompt (zero-state prompts) Suggest helpful prompts to guide your interactions Support a wide range of tasks, from answering questions to tracking action items Whether you're collaborating with your team or presenting to stakeholders, these agents act like virtual teammates—ready to help, whenever you need them. Enhanced GitHub app for Teams We enhanced GitHub app for Teams. The app is now faster, more intuitive, and includes new features. Enjoy improved notification cards, streamlined actions with slash commands, and organized PR conversations. GitHub app enhancements are now generally available. Seamless Agent experiences on Teams mobile (iOS & Android) We have streamlined the agent acquisition and interaction flow on Teams mobile, so users who spend their day away from a laptop can still get AI assistance exactly when and where they need it. From any chat, channel, meeting, or personal app tray, users can find and install agents from their in-context store or via @mentions in the compose box--so they can engage with an agent without leaving their workflow. Agents on mobile bring zero-prompt entry, contextual suggestions, real-time streaming replies, AI-generated labels, inline citations, sensitivity labels, and a feedback loop—everything tuned for fast, compliant, on-the-go reads. Built on the Teams extensibility framework, they require no extra dev work and unlock hallway, site-visit, and commute-time usage moments that drive higher engagement. Meeting AI Insights API: Available in Public Preview This API empowers developers to deliver intelligent meeting experiences—such as surfacing key takeaways or generating follow-ups—without the need to build or maintain their own AI infrastructure. Insights are generated after the meeting concludes and are accessible via Microsoft Graph API endpoints. This API is part of the Microsoft 365 Copilot API, and the results can only be retrieved on behalf of Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed users. Chat and Collaboration New chat and channels experience The new chat and channels experience is designed to help you collaborate more efficiently and effectively. It’s simple by default, enabling everyone to stay on top of what matters, and it’s powerful on demand, allowing you to organize information and communicate your way. Catch up on chat, channels and teams in one place, use filters to triage messages, create custom sections to organize conversations by topics, and more. Learn more here. Customize your keyboard to match shortcuts from other apps: Available in public preview now, Generally available by end of May Keyboard shortcuts help you work efficiently without lifting your hands from the keyboard. Now you can apply the same shortcuts you are accustomed to from other chat and meeting applications to Teams. To do this, access the keyboard shortcuts dialog from the ellipsis in Teams top bar-> Keyboard shortcuts. Then, at the top right you can select keyboard shortcut from other apps from the drop down menu. Improvements in code block sharing Over the past year, code blocks sharing has been enhanced. When you type or paste code, it defaults to your last-used language, allows quick creation with shortcuts or slash commands, and support seamless copy-paste. Improved readability with fixed sizing, scrolling, and word wrap ensures a better viewing experience, along with expanded support for more programming languages. Name pronunciation You can now record and share the correct pronunciation of your name, fostering inclusivity and ensuring colleagues pronounce names accurately. Simply open your profile card to make a recording. This recording will be accessible on your profile card to individuals at your workplace or school using Microsoft 365. With a single click, you can listen to your colleagues' name pronunciations. Resize Teams windows and panes Teams now offers more options to arrange your Teams app window across your screen real estate, allowing you to keep your communication in context, tailoring it to your needs. Learn more here. Resize Teams app: snap and resize the Teams app with Windows 11 Snap layouts to efficiently multitask by viewing multiple applications side by side. You can snap Teams app to one of the different layout, keeping it visible alongside other apps. Resize Teams panes: adjust the size of your Teams panes to prioritize what is currently most important to you, and Teams' fluid experience will instantly adapt to fit the new layout. For instance, you can expand the meeting chat pane during a meeting. Simply hover over the edge of the chat, channels, meetings or activity panes, and drag the arrows to resize the panes Zoom levels: Teams now offers additional zoom levels to help you find the size that works best for you. Whether you're using a 6k display or have low vision and need larger text, icons, and controls, you can zoom in without sacrificing functionality or needing to scroll in two directions to read the text. Share a file (forward) in chat You can now directly share a file from chat or channel conversations to other chats or channels, making sharing easier with fewer clicks. To share a file, select the file’s ‘share’ icon. You can add additional content to the message to provide context and clarity for the recipient. You can share in 1:1 chats, group chats, or channels. Search keywords for standard emojis Emoji and reaction search is now more intuitive than ever! Users can search any terms related to the emoji they're looking for to find related results across thousands of standard emoji. Meetings, Webinars, and Town halls Real-time text available in Teams meetings and calls Real-time text (RTT) is an accessibility feature in Microsoft Teams that allows text to be transmitted instantly, character by character, as it’s typed, without needing to press "send." This enables more immediate and natural conversation, particularly benefiting users who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech or cognitive disabilities. In 1:1 calls and meetings, RTT appears in the same pane as Live Captions, creating a unified communication stream where spoken and typed input coexist. This integration reduces the need to switch between interfaces and supports mixed-modality conversations, such as when one participant speaks and the other uses RTT to respond. By preserving conversational flow and reducing cognitive load, RTT helps ensure more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communication for all participants. This is available for Teams on desktop, web, and mobile (iOS and Android). Teams Webinar in DoD Teams Webinars are now available for the Department of Defense (DoD) cloud. Schedule webinar instances with internal audiences for up to 1,000 attendees and leverage capabilities such as creation of event pages, manage attendee registrations, incorporate co-organizers, enable breakout rooms, and access attendee reporting. Control shared content in ‘Manage what attendees see’ before sending it live The "Manage what attendees see" feature in meetings, town halls and webinars helps organizers deliver polished events more easily by simplifying the attendee view and keeping the focus on participants who have been brought on screen. An enhancement to the 'Manage what attendees see' feature allows organizers, co-organizers, and presenters to control when shared content is made visible to attendees. This ensures smooth transitions and prevents unintended screen sharing. Learn more. Teams Phone Delayed simultaneous ring for GCC-High and DoD Clouds For teams with shared call responsibilities, delayed simultaneous ring will ensure calls configure the intended recipient first, instead of notifying everyone the moment a call comes in. This helps reduce noise and minimizes distractions —especially for roles like delegates and customer service teams. Peripherals: Teams button support across multiple connected peripheral devices: Available in public preview You can now use the Teams button across peripheral devices without having to manually select a specific device in the Teams devices settings. Phone devices: Line key support for shared line and call transfers This feature will enable you to assign shared lines to a line key and view the boss and delegates of the line along with their presence on Teams Phone devices with touch screens. This feature allows delegates to pick up calls on behalf of the boss by pressing the line key and join active calls. Additionally, users will be able to assign the transfer action to the line key, enabling them to transfer active calls by simply pressing that line key. Phone devices: Add or edit external contacts Teams Phone certified devices now support the ability to add and edit external contacts directly on the device. Previously, users had to switch to the Teams desktop app to manage external contacts—now, you can stay in the flow of work without leaving the phone device. With just a few taps in the People app, you can enter contact details, assign them to an existing group, or create a new one—all from the convenience of your Teams Phone device. You can now also assign external contacts to line keys so that contact names are displayed instead of numbers. Workplace: Places and Teams Rooms Find certified for Teams devices for all types of spaces and uses at aka.ms/teamsdevices. Auto detection of room audio in BYOD rooms expanded to audio devices with video The room audio auto-detect and pre-select feature for BYOD rooms in the Teams desktop app, released in October 2024, now also activates the video component of composite audio-video peripherals (e.g. video bars) and automatically uses that camera in Teams. This ensures that Teams users in BYOD spaces, after plugging into an audio-video peripheral, can automatically default to both the audio and now video feeds of that device to easily enable high-quality meeting experiences.
