Beyond his technical career, Wilfred is deeply committed to education and empowerment. He is the founder and content creator of Kou Louise Academy, a nonprofit e-learning initiative created in memory of his grandmother, dedicated to making IT education free and accessible worldwide. Beyond the tools themselves, one of the greatest strengths of the Microsoft ecosystem is its community—a global network of developers, administrators, architects, analysts, project managers, and business leaders who learn from one another, share knowledge, and grow together. The Microsoft tech community has long been a cornerstone for collaboration, skill-building, and career advancement. Through communities, professionals gain access to shared experiences, real‑world solutions, mentorship, and opportunities to contribute back—whether by speaking, mentoring, writing, organizing events, or simply helping others along their journey. Participation in community has also opened doors for many to meaningful careers, professional growth, and leadership opportunities within the tech industry. In this session, I share my personal experience being part of the Microsoft tech community and how community involvement has shaped my career, expanded my knowledge, and created opportunities to both learn and give back. We’ll explore why engaging in tech communities matters at every stage of your career, how community strengthens the ecosystem as a whole, and practical ways individuals can get involved, contribute, and make an impact. Speaker: Nikkia T. Carter About the Speaker Nikkia T. Carter is a former Microsoft FTE who is currently Co-CEO of her second Microsoft Partner company, NTC Tech Consultancy, LLC, focused on consulting, training, development, and other tech services and CTO for Sesa Technology, Ltd, another Microsoft Partner company with similar focus. She has a BS in Computer Science, a Masters in IT Project Management, and is a CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer. She is also Microsoft certified in Microsoft Office 365, is a Microsoft MVP for SharePoint and Microsoft Copilot for M365, and is a Microsoft MGCI Regional Lead for MEA. Since starting in IT in 2001, Nikkia successfully worked many different roles from application and intranet development to consulting, training, strategy, project management, and solution development in the private, public, and non-profit sectors. Previously, she founded and ran her 1st Microsoft Partner company where she obtained her 1st Microsoft MVP in Office Apps & Services. Nikkia is an accomplished speaker, author, tech leader, board member, event organizer, and advocate. As far as community, Nikkia is co-founder of Ananse Tech community, the Ghana-based tech community for Microsoft tech professionals, and The Microsoft Productivity Power Hour, the tech community for business leaders and owners.
