I joined windows insider, and before I start I wanted to note originally only wanted to be in the beta, not the DEV or CANARY builds as I am a beginner. However, at this moment in time, the DEV build downloaded and this build is trying to install, I have clicked download/install multiple times and it takes forever, (I know it takes time but normally is much faster on my device) but when it finally hits 100%, it requests the restart for the update process, whenever my system is rebooted windows update says "Attention Needed" and the install failed. Yet-- when I go to update history this is what shows: Here is what my insider page looks like currently for note: So I am confused and frankly would either like to get this update install gone, or just the beta. Any assistance would be very much appreciated, especially since I am a newbie.1.5KViews0likes3CommentsBeta channel update to 81.0.416.12 is live
These release notes provide information about new features and non-security updates that are included in the Microsoft Edge Beta Channel. Edge Beta Version 81.0.416.12: February 20 Feature updates Collections is now available. You can get started by clicking the Collections icon next to the address bar. This opens the Collections pane where you can create, edit, and view Collections. We designed Collections based on what you do on the web. If you’re a shopper, a traveller, a teacher or a student, Collections can help. Learn more. Allow the removal (Hide from toolbar) of the Collections button from the Microsoft Edge toolbar for consistency. On-prem Active Directory account auto sign in will only be targeted to organizations that turn it on. If users were already signed in with an on-prem AD account, they will now be able to sign out of it. Now, users will only be automatically signed in with the primary account on their operating system if it is an MSA or an Azure AD account. Admins can enable auto sign in with an on-prem AD account using the ConfigureOnPremisesAccountAutoSignIn policy. Application Guard. Extensions support now available in the container. Added a message to inform users that Internet Explorer is not installed when a user navigates to a page that is configured to open in Internet Explorer mode. Updated the 3D View tool in Microsoft Edge DevTools with a new feature to help debug z-index stacking context. 3D View shows a representation of the DOM (Document Object Model) depth using color and stacking, and the z-Index view helps you isolate the different stacking contexts of your page. Learn more. Localized the F12 Dev tools in 10 new languages, so they will match the language used in the rest of the browser. Learn more. Added support for Dolby Vision playback. On Dolby Vision-enabled Windows 10 Build 17134 (April 2018 Update), websites can show Dolby vision content. See how to enable Dolby Vision content from Netflix. Microsoft Edge can now identify and remove duplicate favorites and merge folders with the same name. To access the tool, click the star on the browser’s toolbar and select "Remove duplicate favorites". You will be able to confirm changes and any updates to your favorites will be synced across devices. We heard from users it can be difficult to distinguish a normal browsing window in dark theme from an InPrivate window since both window frames are dark. The new solid InPrivate blue pill in the top right corner helps reassure users they are browsing InPrivate. Open external links in the correct browser profile. Select a default profile for links opened for external apps to open in from edge://settings/multiProfileSettings. Added a warning to alert users who sign into a browser profile with an account after being previously signed in with another account. This will help prevent unintentional data merging. If you have payment cards saved in your Microsoft account, you can use them in Microsoft Edge while filling out payment forms. The cards in your Microsoft account will sync across desktop devices and the full details will be shared with the website after two-factor authentication (CVC code and your Microsoft identity.) For further convenience, you can choose to securely save a copy of the card on the device during authentication. Line Focus is designed for users who like to focus on a limited part of the content as they read. It lets users keep the focus on 1, 3 or 5 lines at a time and dims out the rest of the page to let users read without distraction. Users can scroll using touch or arrow keys and the focus shifts accordingly. Microsoft Edge is now integrated with Windows Speller on Windows platforms 8.1 and above. This integration provides greater language support, with access to more language dictionaries and the ability to use Windows custom dictionaries. There is no further action needed from the users when a language has been added in the OS language settings and a language spellcheck toggle is enabled in Microsoft Edge settings. When PDF documents are opened using Microsoft Edge, users will now be able to create highlights, change color, and delete highlights. This helps in referencing important parts of the document later, and for collaboration. When loading long PDF documents that have been optimized for web, the pages being viewed by the user will be loaded faster, parallelly, while the rest of the document is loading. Now it's easier to start the Immersive Reader for a website by just pressing the F9 key. Now it's easier to start Read Aloud by using a keyboard shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + U). Hello, I've been enjoying trying out the Dev version of Window 11, but recent updates made it so unstable I can barely use it (e.g. right click only now rarely works). I'm keen to get back to Win 10 - whether the official release, beta channel or release preview - but apparently any downgrade requires a clean install. What's the next best thing if I don't want to reinstall everything? Wait for the next 11 Dev release and hope things are fixed? Cheers, Seb5.2KViews2likes11CommentsBug@ Settings > Windows Update > Windows Insider Program
I joined the Windows Insider Program months ago, and I currently have Windows 11 activated. For some unknown reason, I have this on my screen, but I know as a matter of fact that this is false. I know that Windows 11 is officially released now, but this is not the kind of message that should be displayed here if the Windows Insider Program is obsolete now.839Views0likes1CommentWindows Insider: Beta Channel (Discounted/Free 11 Home to 11 Pro)
Hey Everyone, I'm not sure I'm in the correct place. I've never posted on here before. I'm on Windows 11 Home Edition through the beta channel. I was wondering if anyone knows a way to move from 11 Home Edition to 11 Pro Edition (or is there another better suited?). I am a student. Majoring in software development. I have interests in joining the developer program here, I'm just a bit nervous it's too advanced for me. I would really like to access the features that are available on other versions of Windows. I was able to enable Hyper-V. But I would like to have access to the sandbox (Not sure if that's even available on the PRO edition), screencasting. I can sometimes cast a youtube and some other things, but not just screencast my full desktop, for example) and Bitlocker. My device is definitely capable. I checked and the status of my TPM, it says Status: Ready to use. I have 32gb RAM and 1tb SSD (also a couple external HDD/SSD) Anyways, I can't afford to pay for the pro version. I was wondering what the absolute cheapest way to get it would be. Or if there are work arounds like there is for enabling Hyper-V. But that website screenshot feature isn't there. So, we have to activate it from settings or is the feature removed? But I expect the feature to be here as it is Beta version so feature come in here first. Access Microsoft Edge Legacy/Classic (EdgeHTML) after installing the new version of Microsoft Edge (Chromium) This article describes how to access Microsoft Edge Legacy (version 45 and earlier) after installing the new version of Microsoft Edge. Note: This article applies to the Microsoft Edge Stable channel. The procedures in this article apply to systems that have been updated with the latest security updates, up to and including November 2019. When the new version of Microsoft Edge is installed, the old version (Microsoft Edge Legacy) will be hidden. All attempts to launch the old version will redirect the user to the newly installed version of Microsoft Edge. Before you begin Before using the detailed instructions in this article, consider the following 2 steps to enable a side-by-side browser experience. These steps will let your users run Microsoft Edge Legacy and the next version of Microsoft Edge (Beta channel) side-by-side. Prevent the automatic install of the next version of Microsoft Edge by Windows Update. For more information, see Windows Update: FAQ Install the Beta channel of the new version of Microsoft Edge. Note This side-by-side solution is less complex and requires less management that the detailed solution described next in this article. How operating system (OS) changes are triggered After the systems are fully updated and the Stable channel of the next version of Microsoft Edge is installed, the following registry key and value is set: Key: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate\ClientState\{56EB18F8-B008-4CBD-B6D2-8C97FE7E9062} Key value: BrowserReplacement Important This key is over-written every time the Microsoft Edge Stable channel is updated. As a best practice, we recommend that you don’t delete this key to allow users to access both versions of Microsoft Edge. How to enable a side-by-side experience with both versions of Microsoft Edge Installing the Stable channel of the next version of Microsoft Edge at system-level will cause the current version (Microsoft Edge Legacy) to be hidden. If you want to let your users to see both versions of Microsoft Edge side-by-side in Windows, you can enable this experience by setting the Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience group policy to "Enabled". To enable the side by side browser experience policy: Open the Group Policy Editor. Under Computer Configuration, go to Administrative Templates>Microsoft Edge Update>Applications. Under Applications, select "Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience" and then click Edit policy setting. Select Enabled and then click OK. Note By default, this group policy is set to "Not configured", which results in Microsoft Edge Legacy being hidden when the new version of Microsoft Edge is installed. For the best experience, the Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience should be enabled before the new version of Microsoft Edge is deployed to your users' devices. If the group policy is enabled after Microsoft Edge is deployed, there are the following side effects and required actions: Allow Microsoft Edge Side by Side browser experience won't take effect until after the installer for the new version of Microsoft Edge is run again. Note The installer can be run directly or automatically when the new version of Microsoft Edge updates. Microsoft Edge Legacy will need to be re-pinned to Start or the Taskbar because the pin is migrated when the new version of Microsoft Edge was deployed. Sites that were pinned to Start or the Taskbar for Microsoft Edge Legacy will be migrated to the new version of Microsoft Edge. Source15KViews0likes2Comments
