After years of using Chrome, when I got a new computer, I decided to give Microsoft Edge a try. However, Bing has not been able to meet my search needs, so I decided to try to switch the address bar search in the settings. Despite all the guides saying it is as easy as going into the settings, when I go to the "address bar" settings and try to select the drop down menu for the search providers, the box is greyed out and my curser is replaced with the "no" sign (red circle and back slash). I have checked in the "manage search engines" tab, and I have several options there, with no indication that any of them are invalid. Is there another setting I need to change to be able to change the address bar search? It will be a deal breaker for me if I cannot change this setting. Thanks!15KViews0likes3Comments[Done] Add a "Search by voice" option in the new tab page
There needs to be an option in the new tab page in Edge to initiate a web search using voice and picture (reverse image search), instead of having to go to the Bing and then click on the microphone icon, Or going to Bing images and doing the reverse search.7KViews2likes21CommentsNew floating button for the Web Widget in Edge
you can drag and drop it you can put it anywhere on the screen but it's sticky, so it automatically sticks to sides. if you drag and drop it on the center of your screen, it automatically sticks to one of the 3 sides, (Top, Right, Left), also got smooth animation when it sticks. it stays always on top of other windows (except for full screen games which I just tested) can be turned on and off using the option shown in the screenshot below How do you launch Web Widget? it launches automatically on Windows startup (unless you disable it from Edge settings or Windows settings) you can launch it by right-clicking on Edge canary shortcut on Start menu and selecting "Launch Web Widget" you can launch it from Edge settings page: edge://settings/newTabPage you can launch it by pressing Edge's (...) menu button => More tools => Launch Web Widget Microsoft Edge Version 90.0.816.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) This might be a Controlled feature rollout7KViews2likes2Commentsoptional suggestion: new menu bar app for mac
i wish i could launch one of my edge profile (no matter from which edge) directly in the menu bar. so you create a profile launcher.app and then i can search a profile installed on my 4 browser, without need to launch a browser. at the moment we can do similar things once the browser is launched using the dock icon or using the sync icon or using the menu bar option inside edge. but there is still the limit that we can do it for one browser. we cannot search profiles installed on all 4 browser. plus every time you launch the browser, you open the last used profile. so we first need to close and then switch (which requires time). profile switching is slower in edge compared to google. now with this new app you would simply launch a profile inside an edge app, without launching the previous profile.4.3KViews2likes10CommentsNew Feature: Show suggestions from history, favorites and other data in omnibox (Address Bar)
Microsoft Edge Version 83.0.471.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) Show me suggestions from history, favorites and other data on this device using my typed characters edge://settings/search To get that, first you need to enable this flag: edge://flags/ Enable local providers toggle Enables toggle to control whether history and favorites suggestions are shown in the omnibox – Mac, Windows #edge-local-providers-toggle4KViews0likes8CommentsIssue with searching in PDF using Microsoft Edge
Say I'm searching for the keyword "apple" in a PDF document using Microsoft Edge. The search immediately starts as I type in the first letter of the keyword, in this case "a". Edge then struggles to find all the numerous instances of this letter, which takes it about 10 seconds, during which Edge is not responding. This makes searching PDFs using Edge very tedious, rendering Edge irrelevant for PDF viewing and editing. Please advise. When I try to search for a website that was registered in web history in Edge in the past, I can't get any results. Edge's history page doesn't automatically reload past histories to include them in the search this page: edge://history/all needs to be able to actively get older web history entries from our Microsoft account to make the web history search actually practical and useful. not only the past 2-3 weeks, but go back months. sent feedback using feedback button on Edge, if you like the idea i encourage you to do the same, that will act like an "upvote" for this thank you3.1KViews3likes11CommentsAn Interesting Feature: Replacing URLs With Search Queries in Address Bar
In Microsoft Edge, there is a flag called: Query in Omnibox What it does is, basically in search results, instead of showing you an ugly long address, it shows you an easier to read text. Compare: (Query in Omnibox: Off) (Query in Omnibox: On)3.1KViews2likes2Comments
