Profiles
14 TopicsAllow removal of "Connected to Windows" accounts from Edge profiles
I love being able to create multiple profiles for the various accounts and services I have to use, I am now up to 7. It's great to be able to separate them and just utilize sso to do what I need without constantly having to login to each admin console. The problem is that every once in a while, my "Connected to Windows" account get associated with a profile and it becomes a royal nuisance. The only way I have seen to fix it is to delete the profile and start over and that hasn't always worked. On any profile, you can "Sign-Out" or "Sign-Out and Forget" a non-Connected to Windows account. I would like to see the option to "Remove from this Profile" option for the Connected to Windows account. It would also be great if when setting up a new profile there was a more streamlined process to add a work account that won't let the company manage the pc and is only for this application. Perhaps after adding one work account to Edge, the default should be reversed?Solved55KViews10likes33CommentsWrong profile name in taskbar for different profiles.
Profile name in taskbar is different than the name in the browser- I have more 5-6 different profiles and I have properly named them in browser settings. but when I pin the same profile icon on taskbar, the name gets saved like "Profile X" For Example - Name is like "Profile 2" Meanwhile in the Settings it's like this-60Views0likes0CommentsSmart 💡 Idea: use Automatic Profile Switching in Edge to create a Container like experience
The description for containers or multi-containers in Firefox is this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/containers Multi-Account Containers is a Firefox add-on that lets you separate your work, shopping or personal browsing without having to clear your history, log in and out, or use multiple browsers. It's an improved version of the Containers feature built into Firefox Nightly and the completed Firefox Containers Test Pilot experiment. What are Containers? Container tabs are like normal tabs except that the sites you visit will have access to a separate slice of the browser's storage. This means your site preferences, logged in sessions, and advertising tracking data won't carry over to the new container. Likewise, any browsing you do within the new container will not affect your logged in sessions, or tracking data of your other containers. Back to the Microsoft, in Edge browser, we have profiles, we can create multiple profiles and give them custom names we can create offline profiles or we can connect those profiles to online Microsoft accounts (free or work accounts) Edge also has other features (in Canary and Dev channels at the moment of writing this) Automatic profile switching Multiple profile preferences the description text says: Automatic profile switching feature detects links being opened in incorrect Microsoft account profiles and guides users to correct work, school or personal profile by showing a prompt that lets user switch to correct profile. So, now consider all that's been said above, there is an opportunity here. Microsoft Edge already has the base and fundamental features to have a container experience, the only things left to be done are some tweaking. How? Container/multi-container in Firefox is basically an add-on. I've been testing Firefox nightly in the past few months as my default browser and used containers extensively, I've also been using Edge browser and multiple profiles and I'm 100% sure this can happen. Microsoft (i.e Edge browser team) kindly need to improve the Automatic profile switching. so what I mean is, this feature that can already detect links and switch/open them in a different/correct profile, now it needs to Also be able to switch/open links that the user manually specifies. Edge team need to simplify the profiles that are going to be used for container. the profiles used for containers need to share the same installed extensions, favorites, history etc but when it comes to cookies, site cache etc they should be isolated. So for Example, I want all of the links coming from Facebook.com domain to be opened in a profile that's named "Facebook". I want all of the links coming from Twitter.com domain to be opened in a profile called "Twitter" and so on. this is Exactly how multi-container in Firefox works, users specifies a list of addresses and websites and they are automatically opened in their own container, separate from the other containers and the main browsing session, but still in the same window. each container is opened as a tab, next to other tabs, Not in a separate window. so one of the tweaks that I mentioned that need to happen is that Edge should let us open links from different profiles in the same window. currently it can't and each profile is opened in a separate window. so once Edge is able to open Tabs belonging to different profiles in the same window (next to other tabs), those tabs can be colored and marked with a feature that is already available in Edge, called "Tab Groups", the job of which is to put different tabs together and give them a specific color and name. in the screenshot above, I'm showing the end goal and what I hope to happen. so the group "Facebook" with the Cyan color means those tabs belong to a Different profile in Edge that is called "Facebook, but are in the same Edge window next to other tabs that belong to other profiles. I really believe this is totally possible and achievable. let me know what you think and if there is something that can improve this in case I missed it, please comment down below. thank you Deleted MissyQ please review and let the team know? 🙏17KViews15likes15CommentsDefault profile on Edge startup
I currently using two profile, one for personal another for work. I always using personal profile when using Edge only enter work profile for work related stuff. So I kind of expect Edge will start in personal profile when I start Edge but if I the profile I closed last is work then Edge will start in work profile. Currently I think so far there is no way for setting which profile to open when first start Edge. Edge I think by default will startup in the last profile you closed. So if there is no workaround for setting which profile to start then I hoped that devs implement a feature to allow us to set which profile to start everytime if there are multiple account.31KViews0likes6CommentsSync Profile Preferences sites?
I don't know if this is possible, but I noticed when I add sites to the profile preferences section in settings it doesn't sync across to my other devices so I have to add the sites on each computer, even though I have the same profiles on each. Would it be possible to sync these too? I'm talking about this section (excluded my sites for privacy reasons): Thanks! Katherine542Views3likes0CommentsHow to retrieve History for related websites ? User Profile as solution isn't programming-immune...
Because History View As-Is don't have filtering, I create Profile to browse websites so that I can view history on related websites; however, to get more (such as Path Name), I need to access History File; which unfortunately is not Profile specific. Is it possible for History file profile-specific without involving non-Microsoft apps such as SQLite DB? My company policy is to avoid programming.... Thanks Ahead!487Views0likes0CommentsCrash when switching profiles in Dev?
Anyone else have issues when switching profiles when all Edge (dev) windows crash? It doesn't happen all the time and after the crash if I relaunch Edge Dev version 95.0.1020.5 and then switch to the profile that I was originally planning on switching to it does not crash that second time. However later on during the day it will crash when switching to a different profile. Currently I'm averaging about 3-4 crashes a day as I switch profiles a lot. Has been occurring for the past couple of weeks.1.3KViews0likes1CommentFeature Request: Multiple Profile Startup and on link open
It would be really great if multiple profile screen could be configured to always be present on startup without special flags and was an option within profile screen. Also, the ability to always ask which profile before opening URLs as well. Currently there is the option to force specific URLs to open specific URLs but not an option to always select. Perhaps some form of automated learning could be used on device to predict which profile uses each base URL frequently and to have that profile highlighted instead of the first one or last one. Very useful for multiple users in a family but shared PC login.914Views0likes1CommentNew Feature: Multiple Profiles Handing in Edge browser just got so much Easier!
In the latest Edge Canary browser, Version 81.0.411.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit), there is this new option added in the Settings: You can set your default profile and also open links on the web in different profiles from the right-click menu. as you can see I have 2 profiles on my Edge canary right now (1 is connected to my Outlook.com and the other is an offline/local profile). my Outlook.com profile is set as default, but now I have the ability to open links on my 2nd profile too.2.2KViews2likes2CommentsnuEdge Profile Sign In - "We can't sign you in at the moment" "Error code: 5, 2, 0"
This is a duplicate of my answers post here. Hello fellow nuEdgers, I'm hoping someone is able to help. New Edge Chromium Won't Even Try To Sync When Edge Chromium (Dev) has open, I click the 'Profile' symbol, and then click 'Sign In' I am immediately presented with the error: We can't sign you in at the moment The Microsoft Edge team has been notified of this issue. Please try again later. Error code: 5, 2, 0 Microsoft Privacy Statement [[OK Button]] Neither Startpage or Google find anything on purely that error code alone (I think Startpage is a layer on Google). Standard build of Edge ( on the first start sign in run through ) gives the same error but with the code: Error code: 0 I am assuming that when there are commas this then means that these are separate errors that are all occurring. I have looked at this potential fix, which I don't think is directly related: Cannot sign-in to Edge with Microsoft Account However there's no description of what this change does to my system, so I'd like to know what that would be ( especially as it's got Admin related stuff in it ) before going on with the fix. I suspect that this is just something with the latest couple of DEV versions ( I've updated edge). Other stuff that I've tried ( all nuEdge installs are the new Chromium based Edge 😞 Second PC, same issue Fresh Windows 10 install Fresh Edge install Version 83.0.478.58 (Official build) (64-bit) Fresh Edge DEV install Version 85.0.552.1 (Official build) dev (64-bit) Different ISP (potential DNS blocking?) Flushed the DNS. ... more will be edited in if I remember / try them If someone is considering responding with base questions ( equivalent to "turn it off and turn it on again" ) can we please assume that I've done the basics here. I will now list any other occurrences of this incident that I find whilst searching for work around the incident myself: "Edge Sync Sign in" - Microsoft Edge Insider (Microsoft Tech Community) more to come I am using language like "incident", "work around", and "fix", in line with ITIL methodology. Best Eliot PS - I hope and pray that Microsoft are working super hard to reverse the choice to paywall syncing to only the expensive 365 accounts (docs) which bizarrely works in Android ;-). However that's not the issue here (but we should have that on all 365 Business licences, as well as free), it's that as soon as you click the 'Sign In' this error occurs.
