Azure Backup's cloud-first approach Aof backing up critical enterprise data in Azure. Enterprise production environments in Azure are becoming increasingly dynamic and are characterized by frequent VM configuration changes (such as network or platform related updates) that can adversely impact backup. Today, we are taking a step to enable customers to monitor the impact of configuration changes and take steps to ensure the continuity of successful backup operations. We are excited to announce the preview of Backup Pre-Checks for Azure Virtual Machines. Backup Pre-Checks, as the name suggests, check your VMs’ configuration for issues that can adversely affect backups, aggregate this information so you can view it directly from the Recovery Services Vault dashboard and provide recommendations for corrective measures to ensure successful file-consistent or application-consistent backups, wherever applicable. Today, we are excited to announce the public preview of backup for Azure file shares. Azure Files is a cloud-first file share solution with support for industry standard SMB protocol. Through this preview, Azure Backup enables a native backup solution for Azure file shares, a key addition to the feature arsenal to enable enterprise adoption of Azure Files. Using Azure Backup, via Recovery Services vault, to protect your file shares is a straightforward way to secure your files and be assured that you can go back in time instantly. Today, we are excited to announce that Instant recovery of files and folders from Azure VM backups by Azure Backup is now generally available (GA). This adds to the repertoire of cloud-first features we have been delivering from Azure Backup. We earlier announced that File-folder recovery from Azure Windows VM backups and Linux VM backups were available in preview. We received great feedback from preview and we have enhanced the feature in terms of customer experience, security, and performance. At Build Conference, we announced the addition of new Azure Disks sizes – which provide up to 4TB of disk space. These new sizes allow you to perform up to 250 MBps of storage throughput and 7,500 IOPS. We introduced two new disk sizes, P40 (2TB) and P50 (4TB) for Managed/unmanaged Premium Disks; S40 (2TB) and S50 (4TB) for Standard Managed Disks. For Standard unmanaged disks, you can create disks with maximum size of 4095 GB. These new sizes are available to use now in our West US Central Region using Azure Powershell and CLIs through ARM. You’ll see us continue to expand availability and roll out the Azure Portal support around the world in more regions in the coming month. Along with that, we will release new versions of the Azure tools to support upload of VHDs more than 1TB. You can use attached private preview instructions to enroll your subscriptions for backup support for VMs with >1TB unmanaged disks. We are planning to bring >1TB managed disk support by end of this year. This preview also features improvements to restore speed which can bring down restore time less than an hour in most cases.
