URL Bar Bug. Always open Favorite search with a Thai character.
I submitted this to Edge feedback form and also want to share it here as there might be a problem in other language as well. In Edge's address bar, typing 'ส' in Thai alphabet (which shares the same button as 'L' in Latin keyboard) will open up Favorite search instead. So Thai users can't search the web with the keyboard beginning with 'ส' as it will always to go Favorite search instead.
Changing the Address Bar Search on Edge
After years of using Chrome, when I got a new computer, I decided to give Microsoft Edge a try. However, Bing has not been able to meet my search needs, so I decided to try to switch the address bar search in the settings. Despite all the guides saying it is as easy as going into the settings, when I go to the "address bar" settings and try to select the drop down menu for the search providers, the box is greyed out and my curser is replaced with the "no" sign (red circle and back slash). I have checked in the "manage search engines" tab, and I have several options there, with no indication that any of them are invalid. Is there another setting I need to change to be able to change the address bar search? It will be a deal breaker for me if I cannot change this setting. There's a chromium fork called Cent Browser, which have a feature that allow users to search for selected text in non-default search engines, by right-clicking and choose "Search other engines for" submenu. I used to use this browser and changed to edge for a year, and every time I have to copy.the text and paste into the address bar to search with a specific SE. It'll make Edge more powerful if there's such a submenu in Edge, and a selector on the search sidebar, and if possible, a SE selector in address bar just like Firefox, as not everybody can memorize all SEs in their browser. It'll be even better if there's a hide option to hide some of the SEs from the submenu and selectors (still can be used by abbr. + Tab key).
We need GPO setting to block one word address bar search
We have enabledGoToIntranetSiteForSingleWordEntriesInAddressBar and thought this would block single word search in the selected search engine. That is not the case. There should be a setting to block single word search from the address bar. Even better if there was a way to split the bar into old school style url and separate search bar. The reason for this is that the one word searches leak internal server names etc to the search engine. Suggested setting: DisableSingleWordSearchInAddressBar ex. Current behavior: "server123" is typed in the address bar. Edge tries to connect to the server but fails because the server name does not exist. Browser redirects this as a search to the default search engine. expected behavior: "server123" is typed in the address bar. on Edge legacy, the address bar highlight color is the same as Windows 10's accent color while on the new Edge it's a pale default white/blue color. Now if you go to full screen mode, by either pressing F11 on keyboard or this button you will see the tabs and address bar in a drop down fashion, just like in Edge classic. to do that, first you have to be on the latest version of Edge insider Canary which isVersion 80.0.335.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit) then you have to go to:edge://flags/ and enable this flag Enable Fullscreen Dropdown Drops down browser frame during browser fullscreen. – Windows #edge-enable-shy-ui That's it. it was requested multiple times on the forum and I was looking for this functionality as well. Google chrome (even the latest canary version) still doesn't have this useful functionality.
Address bar blues and why the old edge was better at it
May I just say: This is ridiculous and the old edge handled it perfectly! Why is the address bar so narrow (vertically narrow)? That is the widest it can go when I'm tiling two windows next to each other on a 13 inch screen, and it's impossible to see what is being suggested. The old edge handled this perfectly, no matter how narrow the window was. The only reason I didn't include a screenshot is because I'm on my mac at work.
