The 0x8007007B error is encountered when users attempt to activate their Windows operating system. It mainly occurs when updating to Windows server 2019. However, the issue can also appear because of corrupted system files that prevent the Windows server update.
- Firstly, click Start, type "services.msc" and press Enter to open.
- Now, the window containing all Windows services on your system will open.
- Then, locate for "Windows Update" service.
- Lastly, right-click the "Windows Update" service and then click Stop.
Clean the Windows Update temporary cache folder:
- Firstly, press the Win logo + R keys to open the Run command.
- Then, copy/paste the following path in the dialog box and hit enter.
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore
- Now, It will open Windows Explorer in the correct location.
- Lastly, delete all contents of this folder.
Re-Start the Windows Update Service:
- Firstly, click Start, type "services.msc" and press Enter to open.
- Now, the window containing all Windows services on your system will open.
- Then, locate for "Windows Update" service.
- Lastly, right-click the "Windows Update" service and then click Start.
Perform SFC (System File Checker) Tool:
You must scan all protected system files to check for any corrupted files on your system.
- Firstly, click on Start, type cmd, and a command prompt will appear
- Now, right-click on Command Prompt to open with Administrator rights
- Next, click Yes on the user account dialogue box.
- Then, type the below command and hit Enter to process further:
SFC /scannow
Note: You will have to wait till the process gets complete
- Lastly, restart the Windows server to check for the error.
Thus, implementing the above methods will allow you to update your Windows server and eliminate the error 0x8007007B code. If the issue persists, you can update it here.
