Virtual machines windows servers 2012 - 2022 on MacBook Pro 2021 M1

Copper Contributor

Hello,

I would like to virtualize windows servers (2012 - 2022) on Virtual box or even on UTM. Is it possible to virtualize them on a MacBook Pro 2021 M1?

Thank you

Should be no problem. They'll help you over here with virtualbox.

virtualbox.org - Index page

@Kaliyne

I have trying installing different versions for Servers 2019 and 2022. They don’t support ARM based x64.

A virtual machine is not an emulator

your apple mx cpu is arm based and can only run virtual machines that use arm architecture, you need to get arm based isos though microsoft does not make any arm based server operating systems

and they don't sell arm based windows versions to end users at all, they have a developer version for arm on win10 and win11

@Kaliyne I have tried running x86 version of windows 7, windows server 2012 R2 with UTM. It is running fine in x86 in emulator mode on an ARM CPU but it's really laggy. I gave up eventually and now try to run on cloud server for dev purposes instead.
