controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0 on only one of many Virtual servers

Copper Contributor

I have 3 Server 2012 R2 Virtual servers.

AD server, SQL server and Terminal Server.

All hosted on same hardware.

All Server 2012 R2 (Fully patched).

The Terminal Server only is generating System Event log error ID 11

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\DR0.

Source: Disk

The errors shows up about every hour or so but not consistent, and only between about 9:30am and 3:00pm on work days.

No errors recorded on weekends or public holidays or outside of these hours.

check disks and other scans of the drive have all come back clean

SFC scan finds no issues.

redeploy of integrated services. (All Vm's running same version of).

RDS server is configured with Profile disks for users and these are stored on another disk on the system.

I am suspecting corruption of one of the profile disks is the cause of the events but have about 40+ staff using this server and have no way to isolate which user as the Security logs and log on/off events for users do no point me at a single user login/off event that matches the times the system errors generate.

Am trying to find another way to narrow this down as I do not want to have to mount each profile disks for scanning one at a time to try and find it... (Being this is only my suspicion its a profile disk causing the error).

Any ideas.

Thanks.

Randal.

@Randal1810 did you ever receive any help on this, or, figure out what was causing it? Mine are appearing randomly across different VMs on the same cluster.

@JKGce390   Nope.  Issue is still ongoing.. I have put it down to the profile disks setup for the users, but will be honest, I have no proof of this.  Errors only occur during work hours on work days (When users are active) not on weekends or public holidays etc . All disk scans come back clean.

@Randal1810I am seeing this too on a bunch of VMs. But, only VMs that users are actively logged into and using day-to-day.

None of the servers where no-one is logged in exhibit this error.
