WSUS server 2012 R2

Hello,

I would like to know what license I need for Windows Server 2012 R2 to be able to use the WSUS role for local computers located in the domain.

Specifically, does it need a CAL for each client connecting to the WSUS service that uses the database locally on this server.

If you want to access Windows Server from Windows Clients or other Windows Server they need a CAL license of the same version (or at best under SA) the Windows Server is running.

Why bothering with Windows Server 2012, now out of support?

What kind of OS are you going to patch?
