Planning to migrate a Windows Server 2012 R2 file server to Windows Server 2019. In addition to the shares on this server, it also serves as one of two DFS-N servers (on in each geographically separated datacenters). We will be renaming the new server the same as the old after the appropriate steps, and the same IP.
What are the steps needed to duplicate the DFS-N role on this new server when it replaces the old? Does the old server have to have DSF-N role removed beforehand? Will the target names remain legit in DFS-N if the new server name and share UNCs are the same?
