Option to set a file association only as "Open with ..." option
Hi, Is there a way to associate a program with a file extension without ever taking over the file association? I want my app to be associated only through "Open with ..." but never be set as the default opener for the extension. I can accomplish it for file extensions already associated with another app by using <uap3:FileTypeAssociation Name="thisisatest" desktop2:AllowSilentDefaultTakeOver="false">. However, if the file type is not associated with a program, then my program launches when double-clicking a file with that extension. I know it is a bit unusual, but my app analyzes various types of files and is normally not used to open them - which is why a more "indirect" option in the shell right-click menu makes more sense. Doable? Best regards, Brian1.1KViews0likes1CommentRe: MSIX Packaging Tool: Missing File Type Associations
Hi James Pike, I am the author of BitZipper, a compression tool like WinZip. Adding a "Compress this file" to the right-click menu of any file type is an essential feature, and the lack of support for this in MSIX holds me back from publishing my software in the store. TIMOTHY_MANGAN nails exactly what is needed in his post. Of course, being able to specify a shell extension that allows several options for any file type would be more powerful (e.g., in my case, "Add to archive", "Compress", "Compress and email", etc.). You wrote that the request was added to your backlog. Is there any way to follow the prioritization and roadmap for this feature? Best regards, Brian Rasmusson6KViews0likes2Comments
