Re: Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.26052.1100 (ge_release) Install error - 0xc1900101
masterOmuppets32285 I have a Ryzen 9 5900 HX (it is a Cezanne board for AIO and Laptops - mine is a Miniforums AIO) with 32 GB RAM. Updating from 23xxx to 26052 it's been one of the worst experiences of update I ever had with Microsoft. If it may be of some use, the neverendingly update of my Ryzen that at 80% decided to stop progressing, requested a fresh install (from a USB dongle) of the 23xxx DEV Build. Then I installed the AMD chipset (for the TPM and other AMD proprietary files), the Adrenalin 24.1.1 and nothing else (be excepted for the MS Store library list). Then I launched the 26052/8 update being sure that Windows Security updates and .NET framework updates had been installed and Windows rebooted. A couple of hours (a madness with a Ryzen 9 with only a list of apps from the Store) and I won: I had the 26052 installed. Then I discovered that an enormous bug with VPNs started a new nightmare: if you are curious and you'll succeed to install 26052 or 26058 read my last reply to this thread (Re: VPN fix for Insider's build - Page 2 - Microsoft Community Hub). Hope that a cumulative update or a new build in the 26000 series will soon resolve this problem. Back to update, on Ryzen a Fresh Reinstall and the Chipset and drivers update from https://www.amd.com/en/support solved the problem. Same happened on my Skylake ASUS notebook (i7 - 16 GB Ram). After 2 days hanging at 80% install and 20% reboot, I did the same. Fresh install, hyper update of drivers (overall TPM) and then a reboot and let Windows Update does its job. 26052 Took 8 hours. 26058 did it dramatically faster. Have a good luck. And, of course, since we're now in 24H2 (read Windows 12 embryo) if you're in DEV, you may decide to switch to Canary. All DEV tools are in Canary, too.6KViews1like3CommentsRe: VPN fix for Insider's build
StephenFeltmate This is an old post. But even in 2024 when DEV and Canary Channel are now merged in the same new builds (26052 and 26058 - 24H2) the VPN issue seems the same of the 22xxx beta Builds. Microsoft through its kind engineer Alessandra confirmed it and they are working on it. As someone previously replied, the problem may be related to the network configuration. ipconfig /all on an elevated CMD shows as the gateway and other virtual adapters of Surfshark (one of the various VPNs I'm testing) is set to 0.0.0.0. I attach a screenshot of it and try to find a trick to solve it. If I found it, I'll publish it here.839Views0likes0CommentsRe: Is Build 118 (Canary build) broken? The browser will close 1-2 seconds after I open it.
The incredible problem, now, is that my work account was a free trial Azure domain that I created years ago to try some previews of enterprise products etc... Of course it was abandoned, not paid and just there for eventual learning purposes. The day I logged into this broken "work/school" domain with Edge Dev and Edge Canary I knew that the rollback is impossible. It is not only an Edge issue. It is an entire machine issue. Since the main "Tenant" and Global Administrator of the Work School Account is me and the domain has no certificates, no active services, no AD policies, it's an empty container outdated and dangerous. So my Win 11 Pro is full of failed certificates loading errors. E.G. I can't use the Microsoft Editor of my Microsoft 365 Personal (on Edge) because it's linked know to the broken work account that can't activate it (it obviously hangs) on Edge. Microsoft editor works on Chrome, no way to have it working on Edge. A terrible merge of the two accounts that's hard to remove it I'll surely have to reinstall everything from scratch if I not intend to pay Azure (ENTRA ID), register the machine on Intune, then remove any group connected with Microsoft 365 for Business that at the time that I created this "onmicrosoft.com" domain was on trial.... I'm shocked! I couldn't believe it. And I can't believe it. I talked with Microsoft by chat and they say that it is all so experimental and for insiders, they don't have any solution. I hope that my personal account is not compromised even after a Fresh install. I will avoid to use any OneDrive Backup and and see what happens step by step.611Views0likes0CommentsRe: Is Build 118 (Canary build) broken? The browser will close 1-2 seconds after I open it.
Sad news. It has begun to crash even on the Ryzen. It worked for more than an hour then I clicked on a favorite site icon on Edge background, and it crashed. Let's wait for the big nerds to solve the issue. In the meanwhile, Edge Dev for all. 😉2.7KViews0likes1CommentRe: Is Build 118 (Canary build) broken? RORW_WORK Lestlin_Robins I'm writing today from another Win11 Pro Canary Channel and from Edge Canary 118.0.2060.0. In this machine, that's an AMD Ryzen 9 5900 AIO + Radeon, Edge Canary doesn't crash. The other one that crashes is an ASUS Vivobook Intel i7 sixth generation. More and less, they have the same configuration. I have a doubt regarding OneDrive: I was on vacation with the i7 and an HP i5 12th and I've been playing with files in OneDrive. Specifically, I wanted to try the advanced OneDrive function "Free up Disk Space" on the HP machine whilst the i7 (the Edge Canary one) was connected to the same network. I also moved the Video folder to another location on the HP. With these manouvres, may I have corrupted some Edge files or add-ons files that Edge Canary use and loads automatically when connected? It is not more than a doubt, since other people are experiencing the same. About the profiles, it happened before I was aware of the existence of the new function "Work profile". After RORW_WORK talked about it, I create my work profile with an ENTRA ID I own. Nice function (between parenthesis) but the crashes were absolutely the same as before. So I uninstalled Edge Canary with all its configuration files and re-installed it tracing the installation and the registry changes with Revo Uninstaller Pro Portable. Then I uninstalled it once more cleaning up the registry and any other lost files related to Edge SxS etc. I re-installed it with no luck. The fact that on my Ryzen it is not crashing after more than an hour, is another factor that should be investigate, among other possible causes.2.8KViews0likes4CommentsRe: Is Build 118 (Canary build) broken? Here is the same. I tried to record the crash directly from Edge but of course it crashed and the record disappeared. Tried to reinstall (actually I'm on 118.0.2060.0) but nothing changes. The OS is a Win 11 Pro IP Canary Channel Build 25936, but the problem started yesterday 8/25 with the previous build. Didn't change anything on its configuration neither added new add-ons. Didn't know of any Edge for Business function (I'll try to get info on it) but I had to temporarily switch to Edge Dev. Any info or suggestion are obviously welcome.3.2KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Some review on Edge Chromium on Linux
I'll be honest, I had to use Edge Dev for Linux on KDE and Gnome Ubuntu just because I suffered from a sophisticated attack that flashed the firmware of my UEFI Secure Boot TPM 2.0 Asus Skylake i7 Notebook using UBU, AMI tools and old Intel binaries editor. I know this because, I guess why, they left their burglar tools in my OneDrive (sure that I was so dummy not to check and backup drivers, fake certificates, hidden partion and alterd GUID and NvME sectors plus all the rubbish that load at boot (30 ACPI and AHCI drivers among the net ones). Microcode CPUs are of course rolled back to the one of 2009 and BIOS is locked (Speculative Execution attack Meltdown/Spectre alike used with a trickbot guided scripts to flash the flashable). So, I must use the same tool to hex edit (unlock) the actual BIOS and restore the original one. I'm preparing documents, binaries, screenshots, backups to fill a nice report to MSRC. Sorry for this pre-amble. For these reasons, I'm on linux distros and I'm incredibly surprised that Edge Dev (Ubuntu-Kubuntu) is the fastest and more stable browser among Google Dev, Nightly, and relative stable versions, perfectly synchronizing with my precious WIN World. So, a great applause from Italy and thank you for your job. I'm on 106.0.1349.1. Hopefully soon, back to Win 11 insider Dev edition. Stefania2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Dev channel update to 106.0.1349.1 is now live!
Thank you. Hope that all the CVE Chromium vulnerability are also taken in account. Have a nice day Stefania P.S. SEA (Speculative Execution Attacks) Spectre-like and Meltdown like ones, are a nightmare (Microcode patches, BIOS not updated by vendors etc...). Even the flashing UEFI BIOS updaters through scripted trojans using UBU and AMI tools are the next challenge for Intel/AMD and of course MS. Mitigations help and I'm grateful to MS guides. But for already colonized machines by Coin Miners collectives/gangs, we gotta find a solution.856Views0likes0CommentsRe: [SOLVED] Memory Integrity bounces back to "turned off" state after Windows restart - fast ring 19536
TechTroubler In my case, the machine seems fully compromised; and even if no performance degradation, no strange attitudes (except for the one in subject), no loss of documents or other occurrences happens, I have tons of duplicated Microsoft drivers loaded on boot, to keep the state of the things "as is". I mean: - Different BIOS - A section "Firmware" (brand new) in Device Manager that's related to another machine to keep the fake BIOS "as is" - Intel i7 Microcode (sixth generation - Skylake) altered and I could go on and on and on. (I attached a couple of meaningful screenshots). Anyway, I don't think to be fully in the hands of a "Spectre" variant. Some of these things may be the consequence of my studies/experiments with Azure/Intune/Defender Endpoint Protection, that now "administer" some parts of my own identity and hardware security. The Microcode, Firmware, UEFI and "Secure Boot" failures are great problems for all the brands that adopted UEFI boot instead of MBR BIOS. I have a couple of 2008 "Core Duo" with 8 GB DDR2 RAM that are my safe docks (just in case we're in front of a foreign deliberated Warfare ACT). A couple of links among the many: https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2022-25368#match-7708408 https://www.securityweek.com/new-variant-spectre-attack-bypasses-intel-and-arm-hardware-mitigations https://www.amd.com/en/corporate/product-security Microsoft offers a 100,000 $ bounty for further info and solutions on these matters15KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Why have all Microsoft download links for wushowhide.diagcab been broken for many months?
There's something wrong here. On Win11 there's no way to stop a particular driver update that should not be installed. In my case it's an AMD graphic driver not compatible with Adrenaline graphic management software the same AMD provides. Wushowhide.diagcab is blocked, even if its link is available on the Microsoft sites you all mentioned. The process of updating (Solarwind docet) is a particularly sensitive and vulnerable one. Therefore, "social.technet.microsoft.com" should be removed or updated with meaningful content. Graphically, it looks abandoned. And, notoriously, "social.technet" has been replaced with "techcommunity" where this post is published. The problem in subject remains open, and users and IT operators should underline it in any available feedback space Microsoft provides.93KViews1like0CommentsRe: Dev channel update to 102.0.1217.0 is live
Hello John, thank you for this report and all the effort behind the scenes. A simple question that could be of some help for all, here. Don't understand why a so useful and "open-source" live captioning multilingual site/app can't be loaded but in Chrome.. Talking about https://webcaptioner.com/captioner I must manage daily news in several languages, and I do have to use Canary Chrome to work with it. A part some classic tricks and workarounds, I do not have the time to dedicate time, during these tough times here in the old world, could you please (time permitting) what is missing in Edge to make it work? Grateful Stefania4.8KViews0likes1CommentRe: Canary 80.0.340.0 - Force enable dark mode removed from edge://flags
DavidGB. Sorry to say it, but Canary Chrome is actually providing this feature in its last release. Probably I have a sort of "phobia" for white screens (since I have to deal with them 16h/day). This experimental feature, with all its well-known reading limits, is a wonderful tool to provide geeks' eyes with some comfort ( ), especially when you have to work on pages you're familiar with. In the attachment, I put the screenshot of the equivalent setting page and feature as available on the actual Canary Chrome build.2.8KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Canary 80.0.340.0 - Force enable dark mode removed from edge://flags
shaoxuan Now, we're back with the same problem: In the Canary Build 84.0.513.0 the Force Dark Mode Option in the "experiments section" is now among the "unavailable features" and, more precisely, "not available in your platform". Changing CSS "on the fly" to get all pages "dark" may represent a security issue? I love this feature and I hope to see it among the available "experiments" as soon as possible. josh_bodner Probably, this is not the right place to communicate a known issue. I beg your pardon in advance. Watching AT&T (ex DirectvNow.com) there's a problem with subtitles. Whites stripes appear instead of text and if I tinker on it then the AT&T App Crash. Thank you. Edge (Chromium propelled) is the greatest innovation Win10, MS and your team could add to This OS.
