[Future request] PDF Dictionary
Hello, After years of waiting, today I finally received PDF Dictionary feature. But still I cannot use it as I did on Legacy Edge. The dictionary is set to English-US although device region is set to UK and in Edge's languages page there is only English-UK, which is the language that Edge uses. Second, when I study on my Surface Pro, it's really annoying and time consuming to tap on the word and then tap on define and wait until the definition appears. Furthermore, I really miss the old offline dictionary! Sometimes I need the dictionary but I'm not connected. To sum up, it would be amazing if there is a separate setting page for the dictionary where we can: Set dictionary language. Toggle show-definition-on-tap Download Dictionary for offline usage. Legacy Edge PDF dictionary helped me in my studies more than I can describe! Please Students need these features a lot. I'm on pins and needles to start using my PDF dictionary feature again!718Views0likes0CommentsRe: Introducing Dictionary for PDF mini menu
Till up now I didn't receive the "Define" option in mini menu! MacOS 11.1 Edge Version 91.0.843.0 (Official build) Canary (64-bit) I tried to download the dev version too but still I don't see this feature! Even on my Windows 10 PC on Canary channel still I don't see this option. I hope I'll receive this feature ASAP because I really need it in my studies.15KViews2likes0CommentsRe: Top Feedback Summary for September 15
Hi MissyQ You cannot imagine my facial expression when I saw "Add dictionary in PDF" planned. It's the main reason that keeps Legacy Edge installed on my Surface Pro. What I need in my lovely Edge's PDF reader are the following: The Picture Dictionary in the immersive reader is outstanding! I hope that you will implement it in the PDF reader. A shortcut to define the selected word/phrase. (It would be much more useful if we can change the keys in the setting.) Bing Translator to translate the selected text. The ability to store words in a list for further reading. I read PDFs every day! In Legacy Edge, I just put the tab aside when I finish reading and it automatically saves my progress. So I hope that you will add this feature too! These features will help me in studying my PDFs specifically during my ONLINE courses. Thank you Microsoft for providing me such useful tools.3.2KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Roadmap for PDF reader in Microsoft Edge
Thanks a lot for your efforts, we really appreciate that. But among all these amazing features, there is no "inline-definition" feature 😞 I use it all the time, and I'm still using the legacy Edge for the same reason!! Me as an English learner, I need my dictionary all the time, in order to listen to the right pronunciation, see phonetic transcription, meaning(s), examples, etc. Unfortunately, although I've feedback about this feature several times, still there is no plan for it. I hope that you bring such an amazing and useful feature to the new Edge. I highly recommend implementing https://languages.oup.com/dictionaries/english-language-learners/oxford-learners-dictionaries-api/ (OALD 10th edition), It's way better than the https://developer.oxforddictionaries.com/ (Lexico). I'm waiting impatiently to switch to the new Edge browser in reading my lectures, so please add this feature ASAP!22KViews5likes0CommentsRe: Microsoft Edge Read aloud: Now with PDF support
Deleted Thanks for this amazing feature, I use it all the time from its earlier builds. I have a suggestion, WHY we are unable to open selected text from PDF files in Immersive Reader? It will help us to get a clear view while reading some important things. I really hope that this thing will be added in the next builds. Thanks for your effort.113KViews3likes0CommentsRe: Dev channel update to 84.0.508.0 is live
josh_bodner When you will enable Immersive reader for PDF file 😑 ? I'm using the Canary build, but still, I don't have this feature enabled yet. Please, if you still working on it, add it as a flag, so the one who needs it will be able to enable it. I fell that PDF team are lazy because we didn't see any improvement for PDF engine that worths to be mention except the highlighter and inking tool. The PDF engine is just terrible, It's too slow and even doesn't support bookmarks. If you can't add old Edge's PDF features, just consider building a separate app for PDFs. because we really need it.15KViews10likes1CommentRe: Some PDF features for students
NamishB Thanks for sharing the extension with us, I'm using now Google Dictionary, though it lacks a lot of features such as phonetic transcription and many other features... I think Microsoft can do something better than these extensions. So, we have to wait until they reveal their plans for it.1.3KViews1like1CommentSome PDF features for students
Hello, Me as an English language learner, I'm used to read PDF files every day. I'm using now the classic Edge due to its PDF features. As an English learner, I need the dictionary all the time, so inline-definition is very useful for me and I'm using it all the time. When Microsoft announced the new version of Edge I was waiting eagerly to see what it may add to the PDF reader. But unfortunately, I'm surprised that it even doesn't contain the feature that I use in my daily bases. So, I wonder whether you will add the classic Edge dictionary or not? Also, I really loved the new immersive reader and its online voices, but till now it's not enabled for PDF file. I hope it will be enabled as soon as possible because it helps me a lot. Furthermore, I suggest another feature it would be awesome if you add it. Recently, you added an option which enables you to open any paragraph in the immersive reader, I really loved this option. But why you didn't enable this feature for PDF files? It will be a great thing to have such a clear reading view if your PDF file was not good. I have some old books in PDF so it would be useful if I can open it in a clear view. I hope you will put these suggestions in your consideration because they will help me a lot!1.5KViews4likes5Comments
