Re: Dev channel update to 101.0.1198.0 is live
josh_bodner As others have reported, this update worked for only a couple of days on my Windows 11 laptop. Now update 101.0.1198.0 constantly crashes on startup, even after uninstalling/reinstalling the latest update. I hope this week's update will include a fix for this. It seems to be working fine on my older desktop PC that runs Windows 10, however. ------------------ EDIT: Found this solution on https://www.reddit.com/r/MicrosoftEdge/comments/trodxd/possible_bug_in_the_dev_channel_making_it_unusable/ from Leopeva64-2. It worked for me. Try this: Add this command line flag to one of the shortcuts and start Edge Dev from that shortcut: --disable-features=msHub Full path: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Edge Dev\Application\msedge.exe" --disable-features=msHub2KViews3likes3CommentsRe: Introducing Buy now, pay later in Microsoft Edge
mehua Adding BNLP by Zip as a default function of Edge is a Horrible, Bad Idea. MS, you are going to get a lot of bad press over adding this bloatware to Edge. It goes counter to your pledge to make MS and Edge simple, clean and above all, user-friendly. This function belongs in the MS Store as an extension, not as a default function of the Edge Browser. Please reconsider making this a default function of Edge. All you are going to do is encourage people to shop beyond their means and just generally annoy your users who will keep getting nagged on purchase pages to bait-click the Zip offer. This is a bad, bad idea. Give it up now, before you take more of a bad PR hit than you already have. Please.3.7KViews1like0CommentsRe: Top Feedback Summary for July 14
MissyQ Still having an issue on my Bing homepage where the "Show news and interests" button is not persistently checked when opening a new EdgeDev session, and not persistently checked between platforms. I have reported this numerous times using the Feedback form for EdgeDev and on the Bing page, but still no joy. The button used to stay on early in EdgeDev development but has kept reverting to the off position for months. Any chance your team can look into this, please? Thanks for clearing that up, that's good to know. I hope others on this thread see your replies to my questions. I think it would clear up lots of confusion over why the extensions button did not appear automatically with their update and how to turn it on in the settings menu versus what they perceived as loss of functionality and lots of frustration over not being able to hide previously hidden extensions.4.8KViews0likes1CommentRe: Introducing the new Extensions menu on the toolbar
Hmmm. I discounted that, thinking the new extensions button would first be "rolled out" and appear automatically before I needed to consider that option. All I saw was that my hidden extensions magically appeared with the dropdown menu option to "Hide from toolbar" greyed out. I'm not the only one this happened to, it appears. This also was all the more puzzling because on my desktop PC, when EdgeDev updated the extensions button did appear automatically and I was able to easily hide extensions from the toolbar. Wonder why the button appeared on my desktop PC and not on my laptop?4.8KViews0likes3CommentsRe: Introducing the new Extensions menu on the toolbar
I get that. But when the Extensions button was originally discussed in this forum, the article said it was "on the toolbar." But in my update, it never appeared. What did suddenly appear were all my icons that were previously hidden under the . . . menu. No mention was made that the on-off button was in the Appearance settings. So, I patiently waited for Extensions button to be "rolled out" to my toolbar so I could again hide many of my extensions again. It would have been good to know from the start that the on-off button was in the Appearance settings, which would have eased the frustration of others on the forum who experienced the same frustration. Food for thought.4.9KViews0likes5CommentsRe: Introducing the new Extensions menu on the toolbar
OK, so I found one solution to my problem. The new Extension toolbar icon "on-off" switch is hidden in the "Settings/Appearance" menu along with other Toolbar buttons. While the Extensions button was rolled out in the latest update, the button never appeared automatically in my toolbar, which made all my extensions suddenly flood my toolbar after the update. I had the inspiration to search for it today and I found it. This makes me wonder why no one on the MS EdgeDev team mentioned this before. *Sigh* Oh, well,5KViews0likes7CommentsRe: Introducing the new Extensions menu on the toolbar
@Josh -- The change in how to hide extensions on the toolbar is a huge, enormous, time-sucking fail. I say this because absent this giant step backwards, all the changes your team has made to the functionality of Edge have been helpful and at the least, not harmful (with the possible exception of the early Favorites duplication issue). Please read through the complaints below from longtime users about why the extensions button is a fail compared to previously just hiding extension buttons by clicking the . . . button. As it is, because the new extensions button has yet to roll out to my Edge installation, I now have all my extensions cluttering up my formerly clearn(er) ribbon menu with no way to activate the "Hide from toolbar" button. Seriously, you guys solved a problem here that does not exist. As for needing to know the name of extensions whose icon you don't recognize -- that's what the Extensions button under the menu icon is for. Sheesh, what a mess you've made. I hope you can clean it up soon.5.4KViews3likes8CommentsRe: Introducing the new favorites experience in Microsoft Edge
William Devereux Thank you, thank you, thank you, both for being able to access Favorites through a more classic tree menu and being able to pin Favorites in a pane to the side of the browser. Those two steps alone have vastly improved my experience using Edge. All the rest of the changes to how we can work with Favorites more easily and efficiently without having to constantly chase dropdown menus across the screen and having to start from the top again every time we make a click error (which for me was often before these improvements!) is so very helpful. As a user and not a developer, this week's Favorites UX redesign is the single best weekly improvement the Edge team has made since being able to sync Favorites between devices. Now if you could just bring these Favorite improvements quickly to the Beta and public release versions of Edge, you'd hear a big cheer from tech media reviewers and users alike. Keep up the good work, Edge team. You are building out the best browser on the planet, IMO.6.9KViews3likes0CommentsRe: Top Feedback Summary for August 19
HotCakeX I also still have vertical tabs, and your note about "the delay is too high between when you hover over the vertical tab strip on the left side and when the menu expands" only happens with the first strip I hover over with my cursor. If I then continue to move my cursor over other strips, the menu expands instantly. Have you noticed the same thing? Otherwise, I have noticed nothing particularly different about vertical tabs. The improvement I would most like to see is to have an option to turn vertical tabs option on or off, either by hovering over a blank spot in the tabs ribbon or directly through the ... menu without having to open the settings page. Thanks!10KViews0likes1Comment- 3.4KViews1like0Comments
Re: Dev channel update to 82.0.446.0 is live
josh_bodner Thanks for all your hard work on Edge and EdgeDev. Under Known Issues, I am still having sync problems with Favorites as described below, despite following your advice: Some users are seeing favorites get duplicated after we made some fixes in that area last month. The most common way this is triggered is by installing a new channel of Edge or installing Edge on another device and then signing into it with an account that has already signed into Edge before. Fixing this should be easier now that the deduplicator tool is available. However, we’ve also seen duplication happen when running the deduplicator on multiple machines before either machine has a chance to fully sync its changes, so while we work on fixing this, make sure to only run the deduplicator on one machine at a time. Since this week's update, the deduplicator tool is now running terribly slow. Instead of taking a few to about 30 seconds to deduplicate favorites in EdgeDev, it takes as much as 5 minutes or more to run. Then, eventually, the symptoms re-appear on all devices running EdgeDev. Also, after installing the stable version of Edge on my devices I keep getting hundreds if not thousands of duplicate favorites in the stable version of Edge. I uninstalled and then re-installed stable Edge, but the duplicate entries re-appeared. Syncing favorites is still a massive problem for me. Any additional advice or a fix for these problems would be appreciated. Thank you. PS I have also submitted this problem through the Feedback Hub link in EdgeDev, along with a screenshot.6.1KViews0likes8Comments
