Re: Discussion: Edge displays in an unexpected language
HotCakeX Just wanted to support this: being able to switch off language recognition per site would be great. For me personally, even better would be the option to set language preferences itself on a per site basis. As many Dutch users, my English is fluent, but obviously my Dutch is native. This means that I don't care that much in which language a website is shown in principle. However, I have strong per-site preferences, as often the content and quality of content is strongly affected by the language chosen. A few examples: I usually prefer English Wikipedia articles (higher quality), unless the topic is very specifically Dutch (in which case the Dutch article is probably better). When browsing websites of Dutch organizations / media etc., I prefer the Dutch page (as it is usually the better written and more up-to-date version of the site). If I read technical websites (e.g. programming documentation etc.), I always prefer the English page, as English is the default language for all terminology and literal text like error messages. Translated pages are highly confusing. I am constantly struggling with search engine "localization", search engines still can't deal with a simple preference of getting the highest quality content regardless of language. Duckduckgo has a helpful feature: a switch button to turn on or off "localization" As a result, I find myself constantly searching for language settings (or links to regional pages) on websites. Often there is a small link somewhere at the bottom of the page, sometimes I have to create a site-account and go through some "settings" page to set a prefered language: all quite messy. I assume that this is a problem that many multi-linguists (particularly those who are fluent in English) run into. It would be absolutely fantastic if there was a consistent and simple way to set the language in which a page appears within the browser UI. I guess a button to set browser language-preference per site, e.g. within the current Translation UI, would be very, very helpful.38KViews3likes1CommentRe: Inking on Web Pages - Discussion
Elliot Kirk To be fair: even though I use inking a lot on my PC in other apps, I never really "got" what the inking feature in Edge was supposed to be used for, so it felt more like a gimmick than something useful. It doesn't happen on a daily basis that I want to share a webpage screenshot and ink on it as something useful - and if I want to do that, then Windows offers other more consistent experiences (screensnap and /or onenote). Moreover, the way it was linked to Onenote was a bit confusing to me. What I do use on a daily basis is inking on pdf's. Please make that a super smooth experience! I'd be quite curious to hear what the telemetry was telling about actual usage...4.4KViews2likes0CommentsRe: Support themes from the Chrome Web Store - Discussion
IrinaL Hi Irina! I am definitely happy with the dark-mode theme! Indeed: for me personally (and to be honest, I guess for most users I know) chrome-style browser themes don't add use value. The few times I went to the Chrome Store to pick a custom theme, it took a lot of time to find anything decent-looking and it was never an improvement over the much more polished "stock" theme. BTW: if anything, I could see how expanding the current set of two themes (dark / light) with one or two extra well designed color themes would be a nice touch.7.3KViews2likes1CommentRe: Support themes from the Chrome Web Store - Discussion
Just my two cents: personally not a great fan of theming (in my experience it always looks messy in Chrome, doesn't really add much). As for transparency: more a distracting gimmick than functional (particularly in an app in which you spent so much production time as your main web browser).7.4KViews0likes3Comments
