Update on Exchange Connector

One of the questions I am asked most frequently is “When will the Exchange Connector be supported?”  I’m really excited to announce that the Exchange Connector will finally be an official part of the product and fully supported when we release System Center 2012 SP1 Update Rollup 2 in early April!

At that time, we will release a new management pack (so that the data model part of the EC is sealed as it should be) and some updated binaries for the platform runtime.  Once installed, you will be able to delete the old Exchange Connectors you have, delete the old MP, and create new connectors.  From that point on you will have an Exchange Connector that is fully supported by Microsoft.

We will be introducing a few additional minor features based on feedback and a security audit and fixing nearly all of the known bugs.  We’ll provide more details on those features when the EC is released.  One important feature that we will be supporting is the ability to configure a run as account for each connector.  The core of the code is still the same so the configuration and behavior will be mostly the same.

This plan has been in the works for some time now and the developers and testers have been working on it.  This is the reason that we haven't released a EC 3.0 “RTM” release.  “RTM” was sort of meaningless anyway since the EC 3.0 is not officially supported.  Thus, there won’t be an EC 3.0 RTM release.  The next release will be in April in the product!

Feel free to share your shouts of joy in the comments below!  This is a happy day! :)
