Our 2014 Imagine Cup World Champions, Team Eyenaemia from Australia, made a triumphant return to Seattle recently – and met Bill Gates! You can read all about their meeting at Bill’s gatesnotes blog and don’t miss the great video.

Of course, they didn’t just meet Bill. The team spent a week in the YouthSpark Boot Camp, meeting to discuss their project with Microsoft engineers, businesspeople, and patent attorneys, as well as meetings outside of Microsoft with organizations like the Gates Foundation. It was an incredible week that will give these two students a terrific path forward for their project.

While they were here, Jennifer and Jarrel from Eyenaemia talked with me about their Imagine Cup experience. Did you know that before they won the Imagine Cup World Championship, before they won the Australia National Finals, they also scored Honorable Mentions in both the 2014 Project Blueprint Challenge and the 2014 User Experience Challenge ?

It turns out their participation and victories in these two contests were crucial to their overall success! The materials they created were the foundation of their documents and presentations at National and World Finals, and the deep dive they made into their project to compete in those contests greatly improved their app. In addition, all thirty winning teams in each of those contests received written feedback from our judges, feedback which Jennifer and Jarrel say was crucial in improving their project and their presentations.

You and your friends could be our next Eyenaemia! The 2015 season of Imagine Cup is now underway and you can register for the Pitch Video Challenge, the Project Blueprint Challenge, and the User Experience Challenge right now within our Games , Innovation , and World Citizenship competitions. And of course, you can try out our new monthly Code Hunt Challenge which really puts your coding skills to the next in a 48-hour online contest with a $1,000 prize!

Are you ready for Imagine Cup? Jennifer and Jarrel were! And they knew the best way to tackle a big project is one piece – or one contest! – at a time.
