Robin Shanab , what should SQL Server handle here, it's a RDBMS, not an anti-virus software?
As long as SQL Server do have the database files in access, they can't be encrypted, but backup and application files.
Get an anti-virus software and plan a good backup strategy.

Yes, anti-virus helps a lot here. In my org, we attached by ransomware but, fortunately, we had a backup, so we restored the db from it.
What if the backup is not available or not updated?
