Data Use Numbers for S4B

Steel Contributor

Hello,

We are trying to drive adoption of S4B but running into concerns about data useage for deskless workers.

Is there an reliable info on the data useage of S4B on a mobile phone?

Thanks!

This is a loaded question really. Depends on the user's consumption of it. If it is idling then there will be limited data sent to a neglible level, but a full video conference will obviously consume a lot of data. Before you can answer this you need to work out your expected average workload across all modalities and then work out the consumption by the codecs and protocols in play. You can use the bandwidth calculator to start you off with a little modification you can estimate data usage per average conference with single or mixed modality

I should have been more specific. I would call it "General use", This guy says it is this:
Indicative data usage for Voice-only calls (phone calls)
Calling from… Calling to… Voice-only calls - Minimum data use (MB/min)
Skype for Business app on mobile Skype for Business (Lync) on computer 1 MB/min
Skype for Business app on mobile Skype for Business app on mobile 1 MB/min
Skype for Business app on mobile Australian Mobile number 2 MB/min
Skype for Business app on mobile Australian landline number 2 MB/min
Indicative data usage for Video calls
Calling from… Calling to… Video calls - Minimum data use (MB/min)
Skype for Business app on mobile Skype for Business (Lync) on computer 7 MB/min$
Skype for Business app on mobile Skype for Business app on mobile 5 MB/min$

* Tests were conducted using the Skype for Business app on iPhone 5S using the eduroam wi-fi, Telstra 3G and Telstra 4G networks. Wi-fi and cellular data usage was tracked and measured using the Data Usage app for iPhone. Figures have been averaged and rounded – they provide an indicative estimate of usage only. Data usage will vary under individual calling conditions. Figures should be used as a guide only - monitoring of actual data usage is recommended.
