The Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 client and related features are now supported on Windows® Embedded Standard 2009 and Windows Embedded POSReady 2009. The client update for Windows Embedded Standard 2009 and POSReady 2009 supports the same RDC 7.0 features introduced in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and available on Windows XP SP3.  A detailed description of the RDC 7.0 supported features can be found on MSDN here .

Windows Embedded Standard 2009

Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is a fully componentized version of Windows XP. With Windows Embedded Standard 2009, developers can optimize the size of the operating system footprint because they can select only the drivers, services, and applications they need. By using only the required components, developers can reduce development time, optimize operating system size, and lower hardware costs. Windows Embedded Standard 2009 is used in devices such as thin clients and kiosks.

RDC 7.0 and the RDC 7.0 Multilingual User Interface (MUI) package are available as Windows Embedded Standard 2009 component database updates. The two updates can be downloaded from the Mobile & Embedded Communication Extranet (ECE) site here or for MSDN Embedded subscribers from the MSDN Subscriber Download site . To update existing Windows Embedded Standard 2009 runtime images, a new operating system image will need to be created and the entire device reimaged.

Windows Embedded POSReady 2009

Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is a flexible operating system optimized for the retail industry, with built-in networking capabilities and standards-based plug-and-play support. It lets you connect a variety of retail or hospitality device peripherals onto a single Point of Service (POS) system. Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is used in a wide range of POS devices, including self-checkout systems, customer-facing information kiosks, cash registers, fuel pumps, automated teller machines, and digital signage.

RDC 7.0 and the RDC 7.0 Multilingual User Interface (MUI) package are available for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 as runtime updates.  These updates can be applied directly to the POS Ready device runtime image, the same as a Windows XP SP3 update.  The two packages can be downloaded from the Mobile & Embedded Communication Extranet (ECE) site (RDC 7.0 from here and RDC 7.0 MUI pack from here ).
