My name is Sandeep Patnaik, and I’m a program manager on the Remote Desktop team. When we released the preview of Azure RemoteApp, we had just one goal in mind – deliver the best remote application service for Windows-based applications. Thank you very much for your overwhelming response. And if you still haven’t given Azure RemoteApp a try, head over to Azure RemoteApp website to learn about the service and give us feedback .

Many of you reached out to us via the Azure RemoteApp forum . The most requested enhancement was the ability to make your apps available in cloud deployments. I am happy to announce that this is now possible. You can now create a cloud deployment using your own template image.

Try it now!

To create an Azure RemoteApp cloud deployment with your template image, you will have to:

  1. Create and upload your template image. Step-by-step guide: How to create a custom template image for RemoteApp .
  2. Create a deployment with the above template image. Step-by-step guide: Cloud deployment step-by-step guide .

Update management

One of the key differences between using Microsoft template images and your own template images is how software updates are handled. For RemoteApp services that use Microsoft template images, you will not have to worry about the operating system and application updates. The service maintains itself automatically and rolls out updates on an ongoing basis. As a result, you always have the latest operating system and Microsoft Office 2013 version.

In contrast, with your own template images, you are in control. We understand that you want to update your RemoteApp service only after you’re confident that the new operating system updates causes no app compatibility issues. You can manage the updates to such deployments via the Update Wizard available on the Dashboard tab of your RemoteApp service.

Thank you for your interest in Azure RemoteApp.
