When you use the multicast option on distribution points in your environment and apply an update to Configuration Manager that contains a new MCS.msi, the multicast configuration does not properly upgrade and subsequent use of multicast fails. The mcsexec.log will contain errors similar to the following:

//

========== HealthCheck ffffffff-ffff-ffff-ffff-ffffffffffff
Error finding namespace: 0xc1210106
Error finding namespace

//

Cumulative Update 2 for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager SP1 is an example of an update that changes the MCS.msi.

Workarounds:

For each distribution point that uses multicast, on the Multicast tab of the distribution points Properties, deselect the option Enable multicast to simultaneously send data to multiple clients and then click Apply . After the multicast configuration has been removed, re-enable the multicast option for each distribution point.  After you re-enable the multicast option, wait for one hour to ensure that Hierarchy Manager has sufficient time to reset the multicast configuration and to recreate the signed serialized key for use with multicast.

If you use multicast for deployments before the key is recreated, you may see errors similar to the following in the mcsexec.log .

//

========== HealthCheck ffffffff-ffff-ffff-ffff-ffffffffffff
SignedSerializedMCSKey is empty
Error checking MCS certificate in registry: 0x80004005
